Cissy Houston’s final years were marked by guilt and punishment for not saving her daughter Whitney from drugs.

After the tragic death of Whitney Houston, her mother, Cissy Houston, struggled with immense feelings of regret for not being able to rescue her daughter from the clutches of drug addiction.

An insider told the Globe at the time of Whitney’s death, “Now all Cissy wants to do is die herself. She’s given up on life and her heart is broken.”

“She said she wants God to take her soon. She wants to be in heaven with her angel so they can sing to God together,” the insider continued, according to Radar Online.

Cissy spent years helping the Grammy-winning singer’s daughter overcome her addiction.

Another insider told the outlet: “Cissy constantly begged Whitney to escape the grip of drugs, stay away from alcohol and embrace a slower pace of life.”

“Cissy spent countless hours with her only daughter trying to avoid the premature death she knew would occur due to her self-destructive nature.”

The insider said: “Now she’s gone and her mother’s grim fears have come true.”

Cissy is said to have fallen into a “terrible depression” and there are fears the heartbreak could cause her to collapse.

The Gospel singer’s days are said to have been spent grieving the loss of her daughter and making solitary trips to her daughter’s resting place.

The source added that Cissy chose to visit in quiet darkness, away from prying eyes. However, loved ones are trying to help her get rid of this sad habit.

Cissy was also said to be upset to see Oprah Winfrey accused of capitalizing on Whitney’s death by bringing her niece Bobbi Kristina onto the show shortly after the singer’s funeral aired.

Bobbi Kristina also passed away at the age of 22, three years after Whitney’s death.

According to an informant who spoke to the outlet, “Cissy was sadly depressed and devastated when Oprah took advantage of Whitney’s passing by having Bobbi Kristina on the show.”

“She couldn’t believe Oprah would do that right after a nationally televised funeral.”

“She bitterly complained that [Bobbi] no need to stand out, that [Bobbi] Still can’t accept my own pain.”

Cissy, a soul and gospel singer who won two Grammy awards and performed with famous musicians, has died at the age of 91.

She died at her residence in New Jersey while receiving hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease, her daughter-in-law, Pat Houston, told The Associated Press. Cissy was comforted by loved ones in her final moments.
