Peter Clark was born on April 7, 1952 in New York City, New York, United States. He is the second of four sons of Martin and Loretta Clark.
His older brother, Tony Clark, is a choreographer and costume designer, while the names of his two younger brothers are unknown.

Peters began his acting career in the 1970s as a costume designer and later starred in the musical Paris Hair.
