Shortly after resigning, she left the Eastern Cape and moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in comedy. She auditioned for the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s stand-up comedy competition called So You Think You Are Funny.

This was her first time participating in the Comedy branch of the South African entertainment company. She was eliminated in the later stages of the competition but the experience she gained laid the foundation for her comedy career.

In addition to comedy, Khanyisa Bunu is also an accomplished writer and actress. She has written a number of articles for a number of South African newspaper companies and in 2013, she wrote her first novel, Umbhodamo. Her book received positive reviews and is a required reading for South African Grade 8 and Grade 9 students.

Khanyisa Bunu played Nobuhle in the fourth season of the South African show Ses Top La. She has also appeared in several South African television series.
