Veteran actress Connie Chiume was born in Welkom, Free State, South Africa in 1952, but her father is from Malawi and her mother is from South Africa.

This entitles her to dual South African and Malawian citizenship.

Her father, Wright Tadeyo, died in 1983, while her mother, MaNdlovu, died in March 2020.

She spent her childhood in Welkom, where she attended primary and secondary school. With the support and influence of her parents, she showed her talent at an early age.
