Meet Craig Heuermann, Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann’s Brother
Long Island serial killer Craig Heuermann was the son of Theodore and Dolores Heuermann. In addition to Craig, the couple had another son named Craig Heuermann.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney confirmed Rex’s arrest at a press conference on July 14, 2023. “These young women went missing between July 2007 and September 2010. They were found by the Suffolk County Police Department in September 2010 and then nothing, absolutely nothing. For the next 13 years, their cases remained unsolved. Until today,” Tierney said.
Rex Heuermann’s attorney, Michael J. Brown, told reporters that Heuermann maintains his innocence and called the accusations “extremely circumstantial.” “The only thing he said, while crying, was ‘I didn’t do this,'” Michael said, according to NBC News. “He’s very upset. He’s clearly very upset about the allegations here.”

Court records show that Craig was once accused of causing a head-on accident in Massapequa that killed a man named Winnion Buskey. Winnion’s obituary, obtained via Newspapers.com, listed him as a captain. A 1988 Newsday article, also accessible via Newspapers.com, listed Winnion as a captain with the city’s police department.
A 1988 article in The New York Daily News said Winnion was driving to a bowling tournament. “Mr. Heuermann was charged with various crimes stemming from the accident and pleaded guilty to negligent manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence,” the documents said.
“The cause of this accident was reckless driving by a drunk driver,” they noted. “The evidence showed that Mr. Heuermann’s blood alcohol concentration was .20, twice the legal limit (see, Vehicle and Traffic Code § 1192), and his blood cocaine concentration was .05 milligrams. Clearly, this is a man who should not be driving.”
Rex and Craig Heuermann shared the same house on First Avenue in Massapequa Park, where they both grew up. Rex decided to continue working as an architect despite the horrific accusations and Craig’s subsequent incarceration. He eventually bought the family home in 1994.
