Bobby Dan Davis Blocker (born December 10, 1928) is a famous American screen personality, nicknamed Dan Blocker. He is a talented American television actor and television personality.
He was also a Korean War veteran and played Hoss Cartwright in the NBC Western television series Bonanza, which aired from December 10, 1928 to May 13, 1972.
Dan Block died of a heart attack on May 13, 1972 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 43. He is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California, USA.

Early life and education
Dan Blocker was born on December 10, 1928 in DeKalb, Texas, USA.
He is the son of his father, Ora Shack Blocker and his mother, Mary David Blocker. As a child, he attended the Texas Military Institute. He has a sibling named Ora Virginia Blocker.
He attended Hardin-Simmons University and Sul Ross State University in 1940, where he earned degrees in speech and drama. In 1946, he attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, which was affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
In 1947, Dan Blocker transferred to Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine, Texas, and graduated in 1950, where he was an outstanding football player.
After two years in the military, he earned a master’s degree in theater arts, having worked as a rodeo performer and a nightclub bouncer while in school.

Dan Blocker is married to Dolphia Parker, whom he met while attending Sul Ross State University.
The couple has four children, Dirk Blocker and David Blocker, and two twin daughters named Debra Lee Blocker and Danna Lynn Blocker. Dirk Blocker is a Hollywood actor and David Blocker is a Hollywood producer.

Dan Bullock was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He received basic military training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served in Korea from December 1951 to August 1952 as an infantry sergeant in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat.
Dan Block also received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two bronze campaign stars, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Dan Block also played a blacksmith and a rancher in David Dortort’s NBC series, The Restless Gun, which premiered in 1957. That same year, he played a bartender in an episode of the syndicated western crime series, Sheriff of Cochise, in 1957. The show also starred other veteran actors such as John Bromfield.
He then made his film debut in Gunsight Ridge. In the Cheyenne series Land Beyond the Law, which premiered in 1957, he played a bandit henchman named Pete.
