Early life
Daniel Thompson, formerly known and known as Abraham Thomas Thompson, was born on January 16, 1921. He was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
In honor of a cousin who had recently died, his parents changed his name to Daniel just weeks after he was born. He and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was young, and his father opened a bakery in Boyle Heights.
Daniel Thompson joined the United States Army Air Corps after graduating from Fairfax High School and served during World War II in the Pacific area.
Education
After serving in the Pacific, Daniel Thompson returned home to study Industrial Arts and Mathematics at the University of California.
