Early life
Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun was born into the Iperu royal family on May 29, 1960, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
He was born in Iperu Remo, Ogun East District to Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun and Mrs. Victoria Abiodun. Abiodun’s educational background remains unknown.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, he was embroiled in a certificate controversy, claiming to have received a degree from Obafemi Awolowo University under the 2015 senatorial election form for Ogun East but only a senior secondary school certificate under the 2019 governorship election form.
In a December 2018 interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Channel TV, Abiodun “claimed never to have received a degree from Obafemi Awolowo University”.

He is the managing director and chief executive officer of Heyden Petroleum Ltd., an oil and gas company in Nigeria. According to accounts, he is also the founder of First Power Limited.
Dapo Abiodun has been the governor of Ogun State since he won the 2019 general elections as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Dapo Abiodun was the chairman of the board of directors of the Corporate Affairs Committee. Prior to this position, he founded First Power Limited and served as the managing director of Heyden Petroleum.
On March 10, the Independent National Electoral Commission appointed him as the new governor of Ogun State.
Abiodun became a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.
He contested the Ogun East senatorial seat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 Nigerian general elections but was defeated by the PDP candidate.
Under the banner of the now-defunct United Nigerian Congress Party (UNCP), he was elected to the Nigerian Senate in 1998.
