Win Master Chef 12 It was a surreal experience for Dara Yu. She said she went back to the MasterChef kitchen for this season like, “Let’s just have fun and see what happens,” she thought.
Regarding her young age, Dara told Parade.com that she never considered it a disadvantage. Additionally, she pointed out that since some of this season’s contestants came from seasons that aired after hers, Super Chef Junior, they only have about five years of work experience compared to her eight (even though they are older than her).
She is also used to being the youngest in the kitchen as she has been working in the industry since she was 12 years old.
Dara’s winning menu was based on a combination of some of her childhood favorites along with French cooking techniques she learned in culinary school.

George Yu and Carole Yu are Dara Yu’s parents.
Dara Yu’s father, George Yu, is no more. He passed away at the age of 43 on July 7, 2007 in Los Angeles, California, after a long and painful battle with a rare form of lung cancer that affects non-smokers.
He is a pioneer in digital architecture. Throughout his career, he has also taught extensively, first at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture and then at SCI-Arc. He has also held visiting professorships at the University of Texas at Austin and Florida International University. He was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
The late George had a wife, Carole, and two daughters, Dara and Elena (7 years older than Dara).

Dara’s mother, Carole Yu, remarried in 2012. Having been a commercial actress for a while at the time, she saw the casting call for MasterChef Junior and thus brought Dara to the audition.
Dara also enjoyed baking a wedding cake for her mother, who turned 59 on August 29, 2021. Dara was just 10 years old when Carole married Scott Stewart. Scott, like Carole, has been living in Los Angeles since 2022 and enjoys telling his story on YouTube.
