Guide to Defeating “Focus Bug” (aka Lil Limerence) – The Darkest Dungeon 2 Act 3 Boss
“Focus Glitch”, also known as “Lil Limerence”, is the third act boss in Darkest Dungeon 2. This boss battle is divided into two stages. First stage action group:
Little Eyes (6 HP, 8 Speed):
- Observation: Target mirror level, ignoring stealth and taunt. It applies a special visible mark on hit, causes 1 point of stress, and evolves the eye to stage 2 or 3 (sometimes). This evolution is not random and happens more as the battle progresses.
- Gaze: Target the hero with the marker you see. It deals 2-4 points of damage and has a chance to cause Weakness, Fragility, or Stun on a critical hit. It ignores Sneak and Taunt.
Medium Eye (8 HP, 6 Speed):
- Detect: Like Observe, but causes 2 points of pressure. It does not evolve eyes. You may see this if the watch misses or is dodged, or if the hero dies.
- Glare: A target similar to staring. It deals 4-8 points of damage, has a chance to evolve eyes, provides dodge and strength, and applies debuffs like gaze. It ignores Sneak and Taunt.
Big Eyes (12 HP, 4 speed):
- Detection: Same as above. Used for similar situations with medium eyes.
- Glare: Similar to Glare, but with higher damage range (6-12). It grants dodge+ instead of dodge.
Stage 2 Boss and moves:
Key faults (250 HP, 8 speed, 0 DBR):
- Behold: Used when no hero has any “seen” markers. It causes 4 points of pressure and places 1 visible marker on everyone. It can be dodged or missed, but if it fails, the boss will use it again.
- Limerence: Deals 16 points of damage, damage increased by 25% for each mark seen, critical chance is 30%. It also targets heroes with the Seen mark, applying vulnerability, debuffs that reduce healing by 25%, and potentially causing terror. It ignores stealth and blindness.
- Suppress: Used when at least 2 heroes have combo marks. The exact debuff applied is unknown.
strategy:
Stage 1:
- Focus on killing Eyes that place visible markers on unwanted heroes, and control Eye-aimed heroes by moving the hero or manipulating enemy position. Eyeballs detect their mirror heroes so strategic moves can affect their targets.
- Consider using heroes with speed and taunt to deflect attacks, or use guards to redirect targets to defending heroes.
- Use dodge and blinding effects to make the eye miss the initial shot. Alternatively, kill the eye entirely to remove the token being seen.
- Prioritize removing eyes that negatively mark heroes, while building in dodge and blinding effects to prevent more negative marks.
- Full cleave or dodge-ignoring moves are very effective at eliminating dodge and ensuring hits.
- Be careful with the eye debuffs, but focus on dealing damage as they are usually quite soft.
Transition to Phase 2:
- Make sure the markers you see are mostly on strong tanks like the Barristan or Leper.
- When all eyes reach stage 3, focus glitches are generated and immediately target Limerence.
- Focus on dealing high damage to focus glitches while maximizing the tank’s defense.
- Abilities like Hold Barristan, Defend Lepers, Intimidate, and Weak Application work well. Leprous tolerance can provide additional resistance.
- If the boss frequently crits, be careful about suppressing it, although its exact effect is uncertain.
- If the tank cannot withstand the boss’s attack, the boss will use Behold, which may lead to the death of other heroes.
