David Orobosa Omoregie was born on June 5, 1998, in Angeltown, Brixton, south London, to Nigerian parents of the Edo ethnicity: Reverend Frank Omoregie and nurse Juliet Doris Omoregie.

He has two older brothers, Benjamin and Christopher, who are eight and five years younger, respectively. When Dave was a few months old, his father was deported back to Nigeria because of visa issues; he thought he was on a missionary visa, but was actually on a visitor visa. Fearing deportation, Dave’s mother was forced to take his brothers away, and they were unable to reunite with Dave for three months. At one point, the family was homeless and forced to live on buses in South London.

When Dave was seven, his family moved from nearby Brixton to Streatham in south London. At 11, he began writing rhymes while watching his brother rap at home. At 14, his mother gave him a keyboard as a Christmas present, and he taught himself to play the piano. When Dave was a teenager, his brothers were in prison. Dave’s brother Christopher was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 18 years for his role in a gang murder under the Joint Offenders Act, and he remains in prison.

Then, when Dave was 15, his other brother, Benjamin, was sentenced to four years in prison for robbery; he was released in 2018.

Dave studied Law, Philosophy, Ethics, Design Excellence and Politics at St Mark’s College in Mitcham and Richmond upon Thames College in Twickenham. He was offered a place at De Montfort University in Leicester to read Law, but decided to focus more on music. Dave is also a keen supporter of Manchester United Football Club.
