Early life
Award-winning environmentalist Dave Pepler was born on February 2, 1950.
He was born and raised in the town of Robertson in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Dave Pepler graduated from Robertson High School and continued his education at Saasveld.
In college, he majored in Forestry. He found school a misery and disliked it as a child because he was known as “the fattest kid in town”.
After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at Cambridge University, England.
He graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree in Animal Science from the university.
Career
Dave Pepler first appeared on screen on the Groen nature show on January 5, 2004. He has had many gifts since then. Each week, Dave Pepler records a show in a different location, giving viewers an up-close and personal experience with nature.
He traveled all over South Africa. He also visited Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania and Zanzibar, all of which were close by. As a child, his grandfather, Boy le Roux, urged him to explore the world. That is what brought him into the limelight today.
Dave Pepler is a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Ecology at Stellenbosch University. After working in the department for many years, he retired in 2005 to be able to give a full presentation.

Dave Pepler remains a faculty member at the Center for Invasive Biology (CIB) in the United States. He currently works as an environmental consultant in Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Chile.

For his conservation efforts, he received the Molteno Medal from the Cape Tercentenary Foundation in 2001.
He received another award in 2007. For his contributions to Zoology, he received the Stevenson Hamilton Award.
