Early life and education
Victoria Beckham, born Victoria Caroline Adams, was born on April 17, 1974, at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, England. She is a British national and her zodiac sign is Aries. As of now, Victoria Beckham is 45 years old. However, on her upcoming birthday, which falls on April 17, 2020, the revered fashion icon will celebrate her 46th birthday.
The famous fashion icon grew up in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire, one of three children. She was the eldest of three children, born to Jacqueline Doreen and Anthony William Adams. A dedicated and hard-working Jacqueline Doreen pursued a career in hairdressing and had previously worked as an insurance agent.
Anthony William Adams, on the other hand, is an electronics engineer. Together they own an electronics wholesale business, providing a comfortable life for their three children. Victoria Beckham’s younger sister is Louise, and her younger brother is Christian Adams.
Interestingly, their family lineage includes Carl Heinrich Pfänder, a famous German revolutionary and artist, as their great-grandfather. Additionally, their family tree includes William Pfaender, a notable politician from Minnesota, as their great-grandfather.
When the fashion designer showed a passion for music, her parents, who were her unwavering supporters, enrolled her in Jason Theatre School. Then, in 1991, she joined Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey, where she devoted herself to learning modelling and dance. She then attended St. Mary’s High School in Cheshunt.
During high school, she experienced shame because of her wealthy background. She often begged her father not to drive her to school in his Rolls Royce. She also joined a band called Persuasion during high school.
Music career
In 1994, The Stage held an audition looking for outgoing, ambitious, intelligent women who could sing and dance. That same year, she became a member of the all-girl group Spice Girls, using her maiden name. The Spice Girls released their debut single, “Wannabe”, in 1996, featuring Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown and herself. “Wannabe” reached number one in the UK, the US and many other countries. This hit was followed by eight additional songs on their album, namely “Spice”, “Spiceworld” and “Forever”. As the group became popular, each member received a nickname from the media and she became known as Posh Spice.
However, their third album, Forever, did not achieve the same level of success as their previous releases. As a result, the girls decided to focus on their careers. As a solo artist, Victoria Beckham, formerly known as Posh Spice, released her first single, “Out of Your Mind”, on 14 August 2000, featuring Truesteppers and Dane Bowers. Prior to its release, she made her solo debut by performing “Out of Your Mind” at a charity concert in Hyde Park, which was held to raise funds for the Prince’s Trust. Shortly after the release of the single, she signed a recording contract with Virgin Records.
Her next single, “Not Such An Innocent Girl,” was released in September 2001. On October 1, 2001, she unveiled her self-titled debut album, which cost £5 million to produce. Although the album sold around 50,000 copies, it featured a variety of songs, including…
- Not an innocent girl
- A mind of its own
- That kind of girl
- Like that
- Girlfriend
- Midnight Fantasy
- Liabilities must pay
- No Trix, No Game
- I wish
- Watch Talk
- Love unconditionally
- Every Part of Me
Virgin Records and Posh Spice parted ways shortly afterwards, ending their professional collaboration. In 2002, the singer signed a £1.5 million deal with 19 Management and Telstar Records. The following year, she began work on her second album, “Open Your Eyes”, which incorporated elements of electropop.
However, not satisfied with the final result, she returned to the studio to develop new material. Working closely with producer Damon Dash, she delved into an R&B and hip-hop inspired project called “Come Together”.
The first single released under Telstar Records was “Let Your Head Go/This Groove,” which reached a respectable number three on the UK charts. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties facing the record company, the release of her album was postponed.
In the summer of 2004, Posh Spice planned to release the single “My Love Is for Real”. Sadly, Telstar Records declared bankruptcy, forcing Posh Spice to shift her focus from music to the fashion industry.
