Career

In the 1980s, Dee Snider rose to fame in the hard rock scene as the lead singer of the early days of New Jersey glam-metal band Twisted Sister. Along with Frank Zappa and John Denver, he testified against censorship in 1985 in protest.

It was the Tipper Gore-led Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC)—Snider’s popular hymns, We’re Not Gonna Take It, and I Wanna Rock—that hit the charts in 1984. For $7 million, Snider sold Universal Music Publishing Group the rights to Twisted Sister’s music, including a collection of 69 songs. On the condition that the publishing company provide the songwriters with an annual income.

It will last for years, he gets “a lot of money” from UMPG. The best part of the deal is that he will only have to pay 20% tax instead of 50% because the sales represent capital gains.

After the group disbanded in 1987, he embarked on a number of solo, group, and acting and voiceover projects. Along with guitarist Bernie Torme, bassist Marc Russell, and drummer Clive Burr, Snider formed a band called Desperado in 1988.

They completed one more album, Stand by for Pain in 1994. Snider then focused on acting in films, especially those in the horror genre. In 1998, he wrote, produced, and starred in Strangeland.

It was an acoustic cover of Twisted Sister’s theme song We’re Not Gonna Take It. He continued to act and voice into the 2000s in many television series and movies such as Celebrity Apprentice, Rock of Ages, Spongebob Squarepants, etc.

He released his fourth solo album, For the Love of Metal, in 2018. For the Love of Metal: Live! was released in 2020, and his exciting new studio album Leave a Scar was released. His sixth studio album, “Leave a Scar,” was released in 2021.

He co-hosted Fangoria Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio’s channel 102 Sirius Stars in 2006 and hosted a primetime radio show for Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR in 2005. He also previously hosted a popular radio show on Connecticut’s WMRQ in 2003.
