Early life
Devi Sankaree Govender was born on the 5th day of September 1977 in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. She has an older sister.
Devi’s mother, Moganagie Govender, passed away on 11 May 2020, after a seven-year battle with breast cancer. She was 71. She paid tribute to her late mother on social media, describing her mother as a “fighter, smart and resilient with a great sense of humour.”
Her mother was born in Inanda, Kwazulu-Natal, and graduated from Verulam High School, where she married her father shortly after graduation.

She did not have the opportunity to pursue a college degree, but she devoted herself to raising her daughters.

Devi Sankaree Govender graduated from the University of South Africa (UNISA) with a Diploma in Education in 1997. She previously obtained an Honors degree in Drama and Performance Studies in 1994.
In 2000, she obtained a postgraduate degree in business management from the University of Kwazulu-Natal. She obtained her MBA in 2002.

In 1994, Devi Sankaree Govender started her career as a journalist. While studying at the University of Natal, she started working as a professional radio journalist.
She continues to work as a freelance talk show host for Lotus FM. She also worked as a music show host.
Devi Sankaree Govender secured a teaching job while working as a freelance journalist on radio and left after a year when she was offered a full-time job as a talk show host on Lotus FM.
This was when she began to build her presence and reputation. Most listeners admire her for her clear approach to national issues. These are often delicate and controversial issues.
After becoming a freelance presenter for Eastern Mosaic, a program on SABC1, she recorded her first television appearance in 1996. Countless doors and opportunities arose as a result of her overwhelming success. her work in the media field.
She got a job as a weekly writer for the Sunday Times in 1998 and began writing a weekly column called Devi Sankaree Govender on Sunday, which she did for sixteen years. She became Section Editor in Durban a year after joining the newspaper company.
