Early life and education

Dheekshitha Venkadeshan, popularly known as Dhee, was born on June 26, 1998, to a Sri Lankan Tamil father named Venkadesan from Jaffna.

Her mother, Meenakshi Iyer, is a Carnatic musician. She was raised and educated in Sydney, Australia. She has an elder brother named Sudheekshanan.

Dhee is also the stepdaughter of famous Indian music composer Santhosh Narayanan. She started her career as a backing vocalist by singing songs from two of Santhosh Narayanan’s albums. The first song was titled Pizza II: Villa; Dhee reportedly sang the song in 2013.

Dhee sang her second song titled “Cuckoo” in 2014. During this period, she decided to take a break from her studies. She shot to fame in 2014 when she sang “Naan Nee” from Pa. Ranjith’s Madras with Shakthisree Gopalan.

Dhee made her official debut as a popular singer under the record label Maajja, helmed by AR Rahman. Soon after joining the record label, she collaborated with Arivu to release a song titled Enjoy Enjaami. The song was released on March 7, 2021.

The song was reportedly produced by her stepfather Santhosh Narayanan. Arivu wrote the lyrics. The song became an instant hit, and the music video has been viewed over 398 million times and liked over 4.6 million times since its premiere on YouTube (as of March 2022).

Enjoy Enjaami is the first song released under Maajja. Dhee also released her debut studio album under Maajja earlier.

The album was released in late 2021. It consists mainly of contemporary jazz songs. It is also her first English album since her foray into the (Indian) music industry.
