Does Nightingale run on Steam Deck?
Yes, technically Nightingale can be launched and played on the Steam Deck. But it’s important to note that it was not considered officially supported at the time of release. This means that there will be no customer support for Steam Deck related issues as it is currently considered an unofficial platform. The development team is actively working towards full support for Steam Deck and will provide updates once the status is confirmed.

If you happen to own a Steam Deck, you’re still welcome to play Nightingale on it and provide valuable feedback or bug reports. It can be helpful to disclose that you are playing on the Steam Deck so that the internal team can easily reproduce any issues you may encounter. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that currently other versions of Linux are not officially supported either, but the team is open to receiving bug reports with details about the specific versions that are experiencing problems.

- Hotkeys now go from 1-0 (can be bounced in settings), the default 1-5 keys are still linked to the main hand (character’s right hand), and the off-hand (character’s left hand) are still linked to 6-0 keys by default
- Changed status bar presentation, added icons for each status
- The HUD will fade out when no action or survival pressure is triggered for a short period of time.
Other UI updates
- Equipped items (gear, hotbar) no longer appear in your inventory
- You can drag and drop items from your inventory to your hotbar and vice versa
- The stamina bar is invisible when inactive
- Crafting recipes have been changed to text instead of cards
- When in a menu, other menu screen options are visible in the top bar
- Damage numbers are no longer displayed by default. You can turn them back on in Settings
There are also some UI related updates:
- To put an item into your hand, press “H”
- You can now activate Streaming Mode in the Settings menu. This will prevent your character’s name from being displayed when you play the game (so if a creator’s audience can see their name, they can avoid being bombarded with party invitations)

We’ll continue to refine and update the user interface as we move into Early Access, so please let us know how you find updated features.
Controller support
Since we quickly tweaked the front-end UI demo and integrated various back-end features in less than a week, this had an impact on controller functionality. The game can be played in Early Access using a controller, but may require occasional keyboard or mouse input. We will work to integrate full controller support as soon as possible in an update in the near future.
While it’s not yet the final version, please feel free to provide feedback during Early Access.
We’ve updated the accessibility page and store page to reflect these changes.
FSR3 removal
After looking at the crash data from the server stress test, a large portion of it seems to point to FSR3 integration regardless of whether the user has the setting turned on.

To ensure better stability, we have temporarily removed FSR3 from launch builds and are working with various external and internal teams to see if it or older FSR versions can be implemented in a future update.

We’ve added an update to our performance expectations blog to reflect this change.
For those who wish to use XeSS or DLSS, these will still be available at the time of release.
Nightingale gameplay
Nightingale offers an immersive and diverse gaming experience set in a post-apocalyptic world. After a catastrophic event on Earth, interdimensional travelers seek refuge in a procedurally generated realm. The player takes on the role of one of the travelers and travels in the charming nightingale wonderland. The Nightingale draws inspiration from the Victorian era, blending elements of gaslight fantasy and steampunk aesthetics to deliver a unique environment that is visually stunning.

Survival is key in Nightingale, as players must scavenge for food, rest to regain strength, and gather resources to craft necessary tools. Craftings range from simple items, such as a bedroll that provides rest without shelter, to more advanced creations, such as an umbrella that allows players to glide through the air like Mary Poppins. Combat plays an important role, with players using melee weapons or guns to fend off hostile creatures. However, not all creatures are aggressive, and some will only retaliate when provoked.
The game also introduces non-player characters, including iconic literary characters such as Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde, who provide quests and aid players during combat and resource gathering. Nightingale offers a variety of gameplay options, including dungeon crawling and raid-style combat, ensuring there’s always something exciting to explore.
Traveling between realms is possible via dedicated servers, allowing players to venture into different biomes such as deserts, woodlands, and swamps. The world customization aspect adds depth, as players can use cards to customize areas to their liking and determine available resources.
