Are there microtransactions in Tekken 8?
No, Tekken 8 does not include in-game microtransactions. Players can customize and dress up their characters in a variety of outfits, but the good news is that all of these customization options are completely free. While the game offers a range of costumes for the roster, obtaining them may require completing specific challenges rather than purchasing them in-game.

Tekken 8 gameplay
As director Katsuhiro Harada said, “Tekken 8” introduces exciting changes in gameplay, emphasizing aggression and initiative. A new feature called “Heat” brings a dynamic element to combat, providing chip damage, additional movesets, and altered attributes for certain characters. Thermal states activated through specific actions grant unique abilities and dash cancellation options. Defend against chip damage caused by powerful attacks or hot-status opponents, encouraging strategic play. It is worth noting that the Rage system in Tekken 7 returns with adjustments, including the separation of Rage Drive into “Heat Crush”, a super move related to the heat system.
The game also ditches the planned return of the “Screw” damage attribute in favor of a new juggling combo expansion system called “Tornado.” Tekken 8 is designed to deliver a cinematic combat experience, featuring staged destruction and character reactions, while leveraging Unreal Engine 5 for enhanced visuals. The online mode includes the “Arcade Quest” battle lobby, offering diverse environments, customization options, and a virtual currency called “Fight Money.”

Tekken 8 development
The development journey for Tekken 8 began with a trailer shown during the Tekken 7 EVO 2022 tournament, which was officially announced on September 13, 2022, through Sony’s State of Play. The game, scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Windows (Steam), and Xbox Series X/S, continues the narrative of Tekken 7 and focuses on ending the long-standing rivalry between Kazuya and Jin. After the Tekken World Tour 2022 finals were announced, Arika took over development of the game, excluding rollback netcode.
Bandai Namco conducted closed network testing in July and October 2023 to evaluate aspects such as balance and matching. Demo released December 14, 2023 for PlayStation 5 and December 21, 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and Windows, featuring Story Mode, Arcade Missions, Super Ghost Battle, Versus Mode, and Gallery , showing four characters and three character stages. Notably, Yohei Shimbori, who previously worked on Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive series, has joined as assistant director and producer.
