‘Domina’ Season 2 Episode 2 Recap
The second episode of Domina’s second season begins at Octavia’s estate, giving viewers a look into Antonina’s feelings about her impending marriage to Drusus, who may just be Augustus’ heir. This scene drives home the point for the audience that girls as young as she and her sister are still ignorant of the physical acts of love a bride and groom are expected to engage in after their wedding.
It shows women’s curiosity about the male body in an interesting way. This may be a slightly exaggerated and fictionalized version of how girls and women of that era viewed marriage as the only way to protect themselves. Meanwhile, back in Rome, Agrippa was keen to introduce a marriage legislation bill to the Senate that would encourage the people of the town and the royal family to marry and have children in order to preserve their traditions.
Agrippa looked to his brothers Augustus and Livia for support. Livia and Agrippa had been each other’s allies, which led to the marriage of Augustus’s daughter Julia to Agrippa. Drusus’s marriage to Antonina would solidify the marriage legislation in Agrippa’s favor. The whole setup was introduced to prevent conflict within the family, which would bring actions into question and also put Caesar and Livia at a disadvantage.
It’s very predictable and the audience is excited to see how the upcoming issues will be resolved. The show is only two episodes into the air, but already a lot of the intrigue and plots in the show have become repetitive to the point where it’s easy to predict who’s doing what. There are so many incestuous relationships brewing in this family that it looks like a Roman-era version of “Gossip Girl.” Viewers can only hope to see more plot and less melodrama.
The constant back and forth between Livia, Augustus, and their allies became tiresome. The makers offer nothing new when it comes to a simple yet engaging narrative.

Domina Season 2 Episode 2 Ending Explained
Marcela tells her mother Octavia about a dream she had about Marcellus, expressing his displeasure at the match between Antonina and Drusus. The superstitious Octavia considers reconsidering the match because she fears Livia may be involved in Marcellus’ death. Regardless of her past relationship with Drusus, Germina had an affair with Augustus. It was later revealed that Jimina was planted by Scribonia in order to weaken Livia’s influence over Augustus.
Livia and Antonina’s dialogue confirms their expectations of marriage and highlights the limited role of women in that era. Octavia unexpectedly withdraws from the engagement, still brooding over Marcellus’ death and unaware of the potential power Antonina could wield with Livia’s support. Agrippa and Augustus offered to make Antonina high priestess if she refused to marry Drusus, showing the consequences of men making decisions for women.
Livia steps in and lets Antonina make her own decision. Octavia’s ego prevents her from considering an alliance, causing tension between her and Antonina. Livia makes a deal with Octavia to use Julia and Jules’ affair to keep the alliance safe. The episode ends with Marcella and Dometheus orchestrating a wedding against Octavia’s wishes to further their ambitions. Livia and Augustus finally had physical relations after a long period of abstinence.
