Don Cheadle was born on November 29, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri, the United States, to Donald Frank Cheadle Sr. and Bettye Cheadle, his father a clinical psychologist and his mother a teacher.

His three siblings are Colin Cheadle, Andrew Kilbourne and Cindy Cheadle. He loved music from a young age and participated in the school choir. In his early years, he and his family traveled frequently.
