Drake is ready to take Universal Music Group (UMG) to court.
TMZ reports that the rapper is officially suing Universal Music Group for defamation over allegations made in Kendrick Lamar’s hit song, “Not Like Us,” in which Lamar alleges that Drake is a pedophile .
The outlet reported that Drake accused UMG of spreading a “false and malicious narrative.”
In the lawsuit, Drake claims UMG was aware of the lyrics and images of Lamar in the music video accusing him of having affairs with underage girls. He also claimed that UMG intentionally promoted “Not Like Us” in an attempt to destroy his image and music to make future negotiations with the rapper more favorable to them.
In the song, Lamar raps: “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophiles.”
The lyrics of this song are a reference to Drake’s album The boy was certified as a lover. Elsewhere, he took other stabs at Drake, rapping: “Why are you trolling like a b–ch? Aren’t you tired? Try hitting a chord and that’s probably the accent La minor.”

Drake alleged that UMG used bots to increase the song’s streams and entered into “pay-to-play” agreements with radio stations. The lawsuit also alleges that UMG had a hand in helping Lamar secure a Super Bowl Halftime performance this year so the song could be promoted on a major stage.
It’s worth mentioning that Drake isn’t suing Lamar personally over the song, instead he’s specifically targeting UMG and their efforts to “publish, promote, exploit and monetize” false claims .
Drake claimed that the song put him in danger, TMZ reported, citing a pointless shooting near his mansion that ended with one of his security guards being shot.
The legal move comes after Drake previously withdrew his lawsuit against UMG and Spotify over payola allegations.
Spotify has denied allegations that it is part of a payola scheme.
