Wright supported himself by selling drugs and introducing his cousin to the industry. He later decided to pursue a career in hip-hop after his cousin died. Wright founded Ruthless Records with Jerry Heller, who agreed to take 20% of the company’s earnings while Wright took 80%. Both invested a large amount of money in the label.
NWA, known as “the most dangerous band in the world,” consisted of Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren. Their compilation album NWA and the Posse was certified Gold in the United States and included previously released singles from Macola Records.
Ice Cube left N.W.In 1989, internal disputes led to a feud between the group and Ice Cube. In 1991, Eazy-E’s controversial lunch with President George H.W. Bush further inflamed tensions among fans. The band began to fall apart after their manager Jerry Heller began favoring Eazy-E over others. Dr. Dre and The DOC, suspicious of Eazy-E’s finances, asked Ruthless Records for a release but were refused until Suge Knight threatened Eazy-E’s family. They were eventually released from their contract, essentially ending N.W.A.

In 1993, Eazy E went to court to prosecute the officers involved in the Rodney King beating. He sided with Theodore J. Briseno, whom he met through their mutual attorney. Eazy E argued that three white officers were responsible for the beating, and that Briseno, a Mexican-American officer, had tried to stop them. This caused controversy in the hip-hop world, with Willie D calling Eazy E a “sellout”. The feud with Dr. Dre continued after Dre insulted Eazy-E in a song on his debut album, The Chronic. In response, Eazy released the EP It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, which featured songs like “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s” and “It’s On”. Check out J. Cole’s net worth.
