The Latin Recording Academy has announced the nominations for the 25th Latin Grammy Awards, once again highlighting the artistic excellence in Latin music. This year’s leading figures are Édgar Barrera, who has nine nominations, and Bad Bunny and Karol G, who each have eight.
Mexican-American producer Barrera tops the chart for the second year in a row, while Benito and La Bichota are tied thanks to their albums ‘Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Mañana’ and ‘Mañana Será Bonito’.
Bad Bunny’s Monaco album was honored in some of the most important categories, including Album of the Year, Urban Performance/Integration, Best Reggaeton Performance, Best Urban Album, and Best Rap/Hip Hop Song, for which he received a double nomination.
At the 2023 Latin GRAMMYs held in Seville, despite not having a brand new album, Bad Bunny still received five nominations for various collaborations, notably in categories such as Best Urban Song for ‘un X100to’ with Grupo Frontera and Urban Performance/Mix for ‘La Jumpa’ with Arcángel.
More women are recognized
One of the biggest news stories this year was the significant progress in recognizing women. In total, women earned 19 nominations in the major categories, a number that highlights the Latin Recording Academy’s efforts to create a more inclusive awards show.
In contrast, men scored 35 mentions in the same category, reflecting male dominance, despite gradual improvements in female representation.
Karol G, a key figure in this change, is also among the more nominated artists, all of whom come from: ‘Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season),’ a project that seemed to achieve limitless success and was nominated in the Album of the Year category.
Anitta, Mon Laferte, Karol G and Catalina from Monsieur Periné are competing in the Record of the Year category, the most important of these awards.
There are also five women in the Album of the Year category: once again Karol G, Kany García, Ángela Aguilar, Shakira and Mon Laferte.
In the Song of the Year category, Shakira, Karol G and Kany García return, along with nominees Elena Rose, Daymé Arocena, Mariana Vega, Silvia Pérez Cruz and Penélope Cruz.
Ricky Martin’s remix of the classic ‘Fuego de Noche Nieve de Día’ with Christian Nodal was recognized as Best Remix, while Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53’s new version, with electronic music, was also nominated, bringing new life to both songs.
The Evolution of the Latin GRAMMYsManuel Abud, CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, highlighted the growth of the Latin GRAMMYs as a global platform for Latin music to be widely recognized. The 25th awards will be held on November 14, 2024 in Miami, a significant return to the historic Seville event. Viewers can watch the event via Univision.
