Early life and education
Edouard Mendy, a talented football goalkeeper, was born on March 1, 1992 in Montivilliers, France. His family has a Senegalese mother and a Guinea-Bissau father named Pa Mendy.
Edouard Mendy and Benjamin Mendy share the same surname, and Senegalese heritage might suggest a connection, and in fact, they met at Le Havre Academy; it is important to clarify that they are not blood brothers.

Career
Edouard Mendy’s journey began at Le Havre Academywhere he started his career. He then signed a professional contract with Cherbourg in 2011, playing in the third division. Unfortunately, he was sacked in 2014, and this failure almost pushed him to give up football altogether.
However, fate had other plans as he found himself joining Marseille’s reserve team. From there, Mendy worked hard and proved himself, earning a consistent place in the squad at Reims and then Rennes in the following seasons.
Edouard Mendy joined Chelsea in September 2020 for a fee of £24 million. He quickly became their favourite goalkeeper, playing a key role in their Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup triumphs in his debut season. His exceptional performances also earned him the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year and FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year awards in 2021.
During the 2022–23 season, it became clear that Edouard Mendy’s performances on the pitch were not up to par, causing him to lose his place in Chelsea’s starting line-up to Kepa Arrizabalaga. In addition, Mendy suffered a setback when he suffered an injury that kept him out for a long period of time. Therefore, in the summer of 2023, Mendy decided to leave Chelsea and start a new chapter in his career by signing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli. The transfer was worth around £16 million.
In addition to his successful club career, Edouard Mendy has also made significant contributions to the Senegal national team since 2018.
