Edouard Mendy became a member of Chelsea in September 2020 after the club paid a transfer fee of £24 million. Quickly becoming their preferred goalkeeper, he played a key role in their victories in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in his first season. Additionally, his outstanding performances helped him win the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year and FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year 2021 titles.
During the 2022–23 season, it became clear that Edouard Mendy’s performances on the field were not up to the mark, causing him to lose his place in Chelsea’s starting lineup to Kepa Arrizabalaga.
