Ellen Davies Rush of San Francisco and Mr. Richard Stockton Rush Jr. of Westminster, Vermont are Stockton Rush’s parents. Stockton III devoted his life to exploring the sky and water.

Years before founding Washington-based OceanGate in 2009, Stockton earned his jet transport rating at age 19 in 1981, becoming the world’s youngest pilot. Stockton holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley and an aerospace engineering degree from Princeton University. He built the Kittredge K-350 submersible along with the Glasair III aircraft.

On June 18, five passengers boarded a submarine as they went on a tourist expedition to the wreck of the Titanic. However, within an hour and a half, the submarine lost contact. She is the daughter of Mrs. Louise Davies of San Francisco, for whom the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is named, and of the late Ralph K Davies, president of American President Lines, and of Deborah Brock Rush of Philadelphia. On a remote cattle ranch in Plumas County, Mrs. Davies was born into relative poverty. Louise’s mother moved with her and three other children when her parents divorced, eventually settling in Oakland, where Louise attended a Catholic boarding school.

Louise worked as a stenographer in Oakland for seven years, earning $25 a week, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. There she met a young businessman from Standard Oil, who would become her husband.

In 1925, they got married.

Louise M. Davies, the San Francisco philanthropist who gave the city she loved a $5 million concert hall in 1980, died Monday at a retirement home in Portola Valley , California. She lived to be 98 years old.

Louise, whose husband, Ralph K. Davies, an oil millionaire, died in 1971, donated millions of dollars to many cultural, educational and medical charities in the Bay Area, including the Exploratorium, Council on World Affairs, Conservatory of Music, University of San Francisco, Stanford University and San Francisco Opera.

Ralph Davies rose to vice president of Standard Oil. But when the presidency eluded him, he left and founded his own oil company. He also ran American President Lines and the Natomas Company. In 1934, the couple purchased 20 acres of land in Woodside, California, where in 1940 they built a magnificent home in which Mrs. Davies lived until recent years.

According to the obituary, Rush’s mother, Ellen Davies Rush, predeceased her mother, Louise Davies. She is survived by her sister, Maryon Davies Lewis of San Francisco.

Father of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush R Stockton Rush Jr or Richard Stockton Rush Jr. is a businessman, actor and entrepreneur. Stockton Jr. born November 15, 1930 in Philadelphia.

Stockton Jr. is vice president and a longtime member of the Bohemian Club. He graduated from Princeton University in 1953 and served as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the board of directors of Stockdale Oil and Gas. In the 1970s, he and his family moved to New Zealand to establish Takaro, a hunting and fishing resort with a conservation focus. As founder, president and CEO of the Institute for Recovery, he is a leader in alcoholism education.

Stockton Jr. founded the Institute for Recovery and played a prominent role in alcohol abuse education. He received theatrical acclaim for his role as a frustrated executive in the award-winning play, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, and he was elected president of the famous Bohemian Club.

Stockton Jr. passed away on New Year’s Day at the age of 69 after a short illness.
