BBC One’s Ellie Simmonds: A World Without Dwarfism? explores the new drug, Vosoritide — which is believed to treat achondroplasia — from Ellie’s perspective. While many are happy that dwarfism is now treatable, the Paralympic gold medallist fears the controversial drug has the potential to eradicate dwarfism.
But “the argument” isn’t what we’re talking about today. Instead, this article is about Ellie and her partner’s past relationships.
Does Ellie Simmonds have a partner?
No, as of 2022, Ellie Simmonds does not appear to have a partner.
The only “partner” she ever mentioned in interviews and socials at the time was her training partner/girlfriend Susie Rodgers. The two were often spotted swimming together, training for the Paralympics.
In case you didn’t know, Susie is a Technical Advisor at FCDO (Disability Inclusion). She won gold medals at the Rio’16 and London’12 Paralympics and has five bronze medals at the time of writing.
The pair also maintain their friendship outside the coaching arena and regularly attend dinner parties together.
“When me and my partner @Susie_Rodgers are together it’s always fun. Fun night at the @TeamSportsAid Ball,” Ellie tweeted in November 2017, after attending a relief ball with Susie.
Well, considering her busy training schedule and filming her BBC show at the same time, Ellie probably doesn’t have time for romance.
Ellie Simmonds Dating History
Ellie Simmonds keeps her dating life private. There is no record of her previous relationships, and there are no hints about her love life on social media either.
She spent Valentine’s Day 2020 working out alone in her new swimsuit!
She also spent the 2020 lockdown alone — “just trying to focus on the present and enjoy each day.”
According to her, Ellie needed the break that everyone was forced to take. It made her realize that it is the little things in life that truly bring happiness and joy.
Does Ellie Simmonds’ height affect her love life?
Probably not. According to Ellie Simmonds, she never let her condition hold her back. She commented that she has never been bullied in her life because of it, and she would never let anyone bring her down.
“I’m just small. I can do everything everyone else can do,” she explained.
Ellie has a condition called achondroplasia that limits her height; especially the growth of her arms and legs. But Ellie sees her condition as a blessing in disguise.
She believes that if she weren’t small, she wouldn’t have made it to the Paralympics and never become the person she is today. Her philosophy is that there’s no reason to be sad or hate yourself. “I just take each day as it comes and try to live it the best I can,” she added.
This is also the main reason why Ellie is skeptical about Vosoritide.
A world without dwarfism is not exactly ideal for her. The road to acceptance and inclusion for people with disabilities has been difficult, and she believes these gains are at risk of being lost.
Thinking back on all the challenges she has faced, Ellie admits that she would still keep her life “exactly the same” even if she had the choice to change.

What do we know about Ellie Simmonds’ family members?
Ellie Simmonds comes from a family of seven. She is the youngest child of parents Val and Steve Simmonds. She has three older sisters and one older brother — Georgina, Pauline, Katie and Steven Simmonds.
Interestingly, Ellie and her three siblings have an age gap of more than 20 years. For this reason, Ellie always tries to imitate them because she believes they are cool.
However, Ellie and Katie are only five years apart in age. It’s no surprise that they’re the closest.
Additionally, Katie also suffers from achondroplasia.
But Ellie didn’t just grow up with her family of seven. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins — all lived locally.
Ellie recalls that her mum was the “doer”, taking the kids to their activities, while her dad was the fun one, playing and taking them everywhere. So when Ellie was 11, her mum made the difficult decision and moved to Swansea with her so she could train with Team GB.
And thanks to her sacrifice, Ellie became the Paralympic star she is today.
