Early life

E-Money’s wealth began with a $2 million contract acquisition. However, the slum boy paid off his debt as he grew up.

Born on February 18, 1981 with the real name Emeka Okonkwo, E-Money grew up with his brother, also known as Limpopo guru, Kcee (Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo).

He grew up in the squalid Ajegunle neighborhood of Lagos. His father, a popular DJ in the slums, worked tirelessly alongside his mother to provide the boys with daily meals.

According to the Nigerian business magnate, his father never wanted him or Kcee to pursue a career in music, believing that the industry was not profitable unless there were sufficient resources.

Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money recently admitted that he learned a lot from his childhood days in the Lagos slums which motivated him and his brother to work hard for a better future.

E-Money attended Ajegunle Primary School with his brother Kcee before enrolling in secondary school near the family home.

He was never well off during his school years and had to do menial jobs to support his parents. After completing his secondary education, he left Lagos to study elsewhere and hone his skills to survive.

With a vast business empire that included both the shipping and music industries, the ‘money man’ literally went from weed to grace in a decade. He was nicknamed E-Money for his lavish spending at public events and his generosity to both family and non-family members.

E-Money is currently the CEO of the record label Five Star Music, which has sponsored popular music artists such as Harrysong, Skiibii, and KCEE in recent times. He also owns a shipping company, Emy Cargo and Shipping Nigerian Limited, based in Lagos, Nigeria.

His other business ventures include various investments in real estate, Oil and Gas as well as Union Bank of Nigeria PLC.

E-Money is currently married to Juliet Okonkwo and is the father of three sons, all of whom live in the UK.

According to him, he met his wife in 2003, when they were in their second year at the University, starting as friends before they got married in 2010; in a traditional wedding held in their hometown. Things were so tough at that time that Kcee; his brother, had to borrow some money to take the bus to the city.

During that trip, he received a call offering him a $2 million contract.

He recently bought a Mercedes Benz G Wagon worth 20,000,000 naira for his younger brother, Kcee, as a birthday gift.
