Early Life & Education
Tindyebwa Agaba Wise was born in Rwanda in the late 1980s. He belongs to the Tutsi ethnic group, which Hutu extremists targeted in the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
He lost his father to AIDS when he was 6 years old, and his mother and sisters disappeared when they fled the village. He was then kidnapped by soldiers and forced to become a child soldier. He witnessed and experienced unspeakable atrocities that left him traumatized for life.

He met Emma Thompson in 2003 when he was 16 years old. She is a patron of the Refugee Council and invites him to spend Christmas with her family. Initially hesitant, he gradually opened up to her and her husband, Greg Wise.
