Emo Rock musician Owen Leahy dies suddenly at 28 as fans rally around his GoFundMe

Owen Leahy, a member of emo rock band This Is Pointless, has died at the age of 28.

His death was announced in an online obituary posted by Cota Funeral Home. The obituary said that Leahy was a “loving son, protective brother and family prankster.” It also says he plays bass in the band.

Leahy left behind several family members, including two sisters.

Now, a GoFundMe has been started after his death. The foundation was founded by Juliet Cruz, his “best friend”.

“I was truly heartbroken to hear of the passing of my best friend Owen Leahy today. Many of you know me as Juliet, I was very close to Owen’s family and during Hey, I want to help them worry less.” about funding their son’s funeral and other expenses related to his passing. All proceeds will go to Brendan Leahy, Owen’s father, to help with any funeral and other related services. Please share this if you can and know that any contribution helps. ,” the GoFundMe read.

So far, more than the target amount has been raised to help the family. The goal was set at $20,000 and nearly $30,000 has been raised with the current amount at $29,345.

This Is Pointless have released their own statement regarding the passing of their bass player and founding member.

Singer and guitarist Rob wrote: “Owen struggled with addiction and mental health. Unfortunately, these types of issues are lifelong battles. In the fall of 2024, after 10 years of sobriety , Owen has recovered from his addiction”.

The post also noted that Leahy helped Rob on his sobriety journey.

“In early 2014, Owen got sober. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization for people struggling with alcohol and drugs. About a year later, I quit drinking (February 5, 2014). 2015). The post ends with Rob expressing the level of grief he is experiencing at this time before asking others to seek help if they need it.
