Early life and education
Fally Ipupa came into this world on December 14, 1977, in the vibrant Bandal neighbourhood of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was raised by his loving parents, Faustin Ebombo Ipupa and Monique Botuli Mbo.
Farley was exposed to the fascinating world of music at an early age as his father played the guitar with great skill and his mother displayed her singing talent gracefully. He has siblings named Boni, Taina and Nicolette.
Despite not receiving any formal education after high school, Fally Ipupa took the bold decision to drop out of school at the age of 16 to pursue his passion for music.
Profession
He began his musical journey in the early 1990s by playing street music with his friends. As his music career further developed, he became a member of the famous band Talents Latents in 1997. This collaboration led to their album Nouvelle Vague released in 1999.
In 2000, he got another chance when he was invited to join Quartier Latin International, a highly acclaimed Congolese band led by Koffi Olomide. He quickly gained great popularity in the band and contributed greatly as co-writer and singer of several of the band’s number one singles.
In 2006, Ipuppa began his solo musical journey and in the same year, he released his much-anticipated debut album, Droit Chemin.
To his delight, the album resonated strongly with audiences and became a commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The artistic excellence of Droit Chemin even earned it a nomination for the prestigious Kora Award for Best Central African Album.
