Singer, actress and dancer FKA Twigs shared a rare glimpse of a recent studio session via Instagram, surprising fans as she appeared to be working alongside rapper Nicki Minaj. She captioned the “Queen” video with a heart emoji, expressing her appreciation for the rap superstar.
However, while some were intrigued by the sonic potential of the collaboration, others were disappointed in Twigs, expressing anger that she would be working with an artist who had not yet approached the subject intentional sexual abuse. Some call Minaj an “r-pe apologist” because of her public defense of her husband Kenneth Petty, who pleaded guilty in 2021 to a federal charge of failing to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl. -She was born in 1995.
Meanwhile, Twigs candidly shared about her journey of becoming a victim of sexual abuse. It’s been nearly four years since the musician sued his ex-boyfriend and former co-star Shia LaBeouf for sexual assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress.
“I just hate hate hate when artists don’t understand their target audience because anyone who listens to FKA Twigs doesn’t want her to collaborate with Nicki Minaj,” wrote one Twigs fan on X. “FKA Twigs working with Nicki after what she went through with Shia is crazy because like… abuse is only bad when it happens to you, or what!?!?” another said.
fka twig has gone from speaking and raising awareness about abuse to working with Nicki Minaj, whose husband and brother are both rapists, for God’s sake

YES TREE Twig FUCKA (FUCK HA) HAS LOST HIS DAMN MIND. AFTER WHAT YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH WITH SHIA LABEOUF, you should come and work with Nicki Minaj. The rapist’s wife. That silenced/threatened his rape victim into withdrawing her statement. FKA U twigs are really desperate in this era. How sad! https://t.co/I2tpejglf2

During an appearance on the “Man Enough” Podcast, the multi-hyphenate shared a touching realization she experienced during her legal battle against LaBeouf. “I’m not special. It’s not about me, it’s about the food. I’m just a resource. I could be anyone. Another young actor or singer could walk into that room on That day, I just had bad luck.” part of the movie.”
This appears to be a reference to her getting a role in LaBeouf’s 2018 hit Honey, where two people meet.
While fans kept pointing out how strange it was for a victims’ rights advocate to collaborate with someone who didn’t share the same views, Minaj denied any truth to Petty’s sexual abuse allegations.
