Early life and education
Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, commonly known as Foxy Brown or Fox Boogie, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, on September 6, 1978. Her father, Keith Stahler, an Afro-Trinidadian who worked as a mechanic, and her mother, Judith Marchand, a Trinidadian of Indian descent, are Brooklyn natives of African-American descent. She is also of Chinese-Trinidadian descent.
She has two older brothers: Pretty Boy and Anton Marchand. Foxy Brown grew up in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn College Academy. Her parents divorced when she was four years old, so she and the rest of her family moved in with her grandfather.
As a teenager, Foxy Brown began freestyle rapping with friends. She later adopted the stage name Foxy Brown and began performing at local hip-hop shows.
Her professional career began when she was featured on LL Cool J’s remix of I Shot Ya in 1995. The following year, she released her debut album, Ill Na Na, which peaked at number 7 on the Billboard 200.
Personal life
In 1997, Foxy Brown got engaged to Kurupt, another rapper. However, they broke up in 1999 due to unresolved circumstances. Then, in 2001, she got engaged to another rapper named Spragga Benz. She has a daughter named Baby C.
In 2000, she announced that she was suffering from depression. Foxy Brown later entered drug rehab at Cornell Medical College to treat her opioid addiction, saying that she could not record or perform without taking morphine.
In 2005, Foxy Brown was reported to have suffered hearing loss, requiring her to wear hearing aids, and while recording, she suffered some knocks on her shoulder.
Foxy Brown was previously married to Ricardo Brown (1999–2000). She has dated Rick Ross (2008), Spragga Benz (2001–2004), Maino, Akon, Jay-Z, DMX, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Nas, Benzino and Shyne.

Career
As a young girl, Foxy Brown won a talent show in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Members of the production team Trackmasters, who were working on LL Cool J’s Mr. Smith album, were there and were impressed enough to invite her to rap on I Shot Ya.
She continued her debut with appearances on several RIAA platinum and gold singles from other artists, including a remix of Toni Braxton’s song You’re Makin’ Me High.
Foxy Brown also appeared on the soundtrack to the 1996 film The Nutty Professor, performing Case’s Touch Me Tease Me and Jay-Z’s Ain’t No Nigga. She became an overnight sensation thanks to her provocative rapping and provocative talent at such a young age.
In early 1996, the rapper’s immediate popularity sparked a record label bidding war, and in March 1996, Def Jam Records won and signed the then 17-year-old rapper.
Foxy Brown released his debut album Ill Na Na to strong sales in 1996. The album debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart after selling over 128,000 copies in its first week of release.
The album was produced primarily by Trackmasters and featured guest appearances by Jay-Z, Backstreet Boys, Method Man and Kid Capri. Two successful singles were released from the platinum-certified album: Get Me Home (featuring Blackstreet) and I’ll Be (featuring Jay-Z).
Foxy Brown began recording in late 2004 after leaving Def Jam Recordings due to frustrations over the delay in promoting her studio album Ill Na Na 2: The Fever. She reconnected with Jay-Z a few months later while participating in his Best of Both Worlds Tour.
After re-signing with Def Jam under his leadership, Foxy Brown and Jay-Z began working on Black Roses with production from The Neptunes, Kanye West, Timbaland and Dave Kelly.
Foxy Brown said Barrington Levy, Dido, Luther Vandross, Mos Def, Baby Cham, Spragga Benz, Shyne, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante and Jay-Z will appear on the album, but it’s unclear if all of them will make it to the final version.
Foxy Brown left Def Jam for the second time after she suffered hearing loss and had to postpone the album’s release. She started her own record label, called Black Rose Entertainment, and Koch Records became the distributor.
Foxy Brown said that between 2004 and 2007, she recorded enough songs for two albums and planned to include some of them on her Brooklyn street music album Don Diva.
