Nel’s dedication and competence led to his appointment as Gauteng Regional Head of the NPA’s Special Operations Division (Scorpions) business unit, a role he held from its inception in 1999 until its dissolution in 2009. A prominent figure, Gerrie Nel, played a key role in the prosecution of Jackie Selebi, former national police commissioner and president of Interpol, which led to Selebi’s conviction on corruption charges in 2010. In early 2017, an unnamed prosecutor at the NPA chose to resign and then partner with AfriForum.
