XO, Kitty star Anthony Keyvan has a rich and very interesting legacy. His mother, Joyce Keyvan is Filipino while his father Ali Keyvan is Iranian-American. The actor spoke with Poptize where he discussed his legacy and what kind of reaction he’s received from the entertainment industry.
Anthony agrees that Iranian representation is rare in Hollywood. He added that he has never played a role as an Iranian. He added, “You know, it was always “looking for Middle Eastern, Hispanic or white,” whatever I could fit in because I didn’t look obvious. I may have looked like everyone else, but I had never played a role that truly represented my heritage. I remember getting the call saying they wanted me to audition, and I was so nervous and excited because you’re right, I’ve never seen an actor play this role. [an] Iranians.”
Because of his ambiguous appearance, the actor explained that he has accepted roles for Indian, Pakistani, Arab and Latinx characters.
Born on August 13, 2000, Anthony is 22 years old in 2023. The California native has been working in the industry since he was 5 years old. He enrolled in acting classes as a young man and after an initial five months of training secured his first commercial, a television movie for Disneyland. Soon after, he was sent out for his first theater audition, also coincidentally invited to guest star on ABC’s “Lost.”
Anthony soon secured a major guest role on ‘Law & Order: SVU.’ He has worked on many other projects, such as ABC’s “Schooled,” CBS’s “NCIS,” CBS’s “Bad Teacher,” and ABC Family’s “Twisted.”
Anthony plays Rahim, an outgoing and humorous LGBTQ+ student, in “Love, Victor,” set after the events of Nick Robinson’s hit film “Love, Simon.” Previously, he portrayed characters on shows such as “Generation,” “Alexa & Katie,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Rookie,” “Major Crimes” and “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” on networks like HBO, ABC, Netflix, TNT, CBS, Nickelodeon, Hulu, etc
