The Story of Julia Holcomb

Julia Holcomb met Steven Tyler at a concert in Portland, Oregon, shortly after her 16th birthday in November 1973. But it was tragedy after tragedy that struck her family, and one that she believes led her backstage at the Aerosmith concert. “My friendships changed from the kids we knew at church to the kids hanging out at the local Juvenile Center,” she said. “Some of them were doing drugs and drinking.”

A few months before meeting Steven, Julia had befriended a girl who would attend backstage parties at concerts. The 24-year-old girl, whom she barely knew at the time, brought about a major change in her life, “and our friendship was one of the most dangerous friendships I’ve ever formed.”

“She quickly taught me how to dress to get attention and use sex as bait to try to catch a rock star,” Julia shared. “I remember dressing up to go to an Aerosmith concert, with the intention of going backstage with her. I heard the song Dream On and saw Steven’s picture on the album cover, I went to the concert hoping to meet Steven and after the concert we met for the first time. At the time, I thought he was the best thing that had ever happened to me. My sad, vulnerable story, as well as my youth and personal charm, caught his attention.”

Julia’s mother later signed over custody of her to Steven after she moved to Boston. She added, “I remember my surprise when Steven told me she had signed the papers and trying to process it in my head. A sense of vulnerability came over me, knowing that I was his ward, but we weren’t married. He hadn’t expressed any intention of a long-term relationship with me.”

Julia confronted Steven that her mother would never sign the contract with him. He allegedly told her, “I told my mother I needed them so she could enroll in school.”

When they first started living together, she was on birth control pills. They planned to get pregnant. Julia described Steven this way: “He grew up in rural New Hampshire and sometimes he acted like a real farm boy. He wanted a family and he asked me if I wanted to have kids with him.”

Eventually, Steven’s sincerity reached her and she agreed to have the baby. Within a year, she was pregnant and told Steven and the singer was really happy about it and proposed to her. However, Steven’s parents were not on the same page about Steven marrying Julia because Julia was too young and immature.

While Steven was traveling, Julia was in Boston “in an apartment with no money, no education, no prenatal care, no driver’s license, and little food.” Then a fire nearly took her life. It happened when she was five months pregnant in 1975. Her lungs were damaged by the fire, so Steven asked her to have an abortion.

“I couldn’t believe he was even asking me to have an abortion at this point,” Julia explained. “He spent over an hour pressuring me to have an abortion. He said I was too young to have a baby and that it would be brain damaged because I had been in the fire and taken drugs.”

Additionally, Julia is suing Aerosmith Frontman in 2022 for sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit filed by Julia Misley was filed Tuesday under a 2019 California law that gives adult victims of child sexual assault a three-year period to file lawsuits for assaults that occurred decades ago. Saturday is the deadline for filing such claims.

The lawsuit alleges that Tyler “used his role, status, and power as a prominent musician and rock star to approach, seduce, manipulate, exploit, and sexually assault” Misley over a three-year period. Some of the abuse occurred in Los Angeles County, the lawsuit says. As a result, she suffered severe emotional distress and financial loss, the lawsuit says.

Where is Julia Holcomb now?

Julia Holcomb now speaks as a Christian speaker. She is an influential voice in the anti-abortion movement. She even wrote a book about her interactions with Tyler, claiming that it was her faith in Jesus Christ that helped her overcome the pain she claims to have experienced after an early abortion.

“Marriage and family are the foundation of every moral society,” she continued. “I pray that our country can find its way back to God’s plan by respecting the life of the unborn and strengthening the sanctity of marriage.”

After arguing over the abortion, Steven Tyler knew he couldn’t change her mind. They were only a week away from abortion becoming illegal. Then Steven said, “Okay, you can go to your mom’s house and have the baby there.”

Julia added, “I was exhausted and starting to feel hopeless. My mother and stepfather would not be happy about me coming home pregnant. I believed they wanted me to have an abortion too. I began to feel like my life was falling apart, I had no health insurance or money and did not believe Steven had any intention of helping me or the baby. He had not provided me with medical care up until that point. I believed he had abandoned me like my father and mother had. I started to cry and agreed to the abortion. Steven was relieved and happy. He reassured me that he cared about me and that after the abortion, everything would be okay.”

Julia and Steven’s child was never born because she went through the process. “It was a horrible nightmare that I will never forget,” she said. “I was traumatized by the experience. My child had only one protector in his life; me, and I succumbed to the pressure because of fear of rejection and an uncertain future. I wish I could go back and be given that chance again, to say no to abortion one last time. I wish I could watch that baby live his life and grow into a man.”

But Julia believes that Steven was also traumatized by witnessing his firstborn son in such a horrifying and direct way. He witnessed the birth of the baby and then told Julia that the baby had been born alive and was allowed to die. Julia was not allowed to see the baby’s face.
