Early life
Goya Menor Bright was born into the Southern family of Mr. and Mrs. Menor on the 4th of May 1995. He is a native of Edo State in the South-South region of Nigeria. He was born and raised in Ekpoma City in Edo State.
He comes from a Christian family, which helped him become a man of strong morals and prevented him from joining gangs as he grew up, like many other young men his age.
From a young age, Goya Menor began to experience the rich Nigerian music scene as he spent hours listening to songs by Nigerian artists on the radio and TV. This exposed him to Hip-hop, Afrobeats, Afropop and R&B sounds. He also listened to songs by American artists and this is where his love for rap developed.
Goya Menor grew from rapping out verses from his favorite rap songs to composing his own raps to perform at school events while his schoolmates cheered him on. Being a member of the church choir also helped improve his vocal abilities. So it wasn’t a surprise to his parents when he told them he planned to make music professionally.

He spent his formative years attending prestigious primary and secondary schools in Edo state.
After passing his final exams, he applied to study Sociology at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and was admitted. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree completing the four years of compulsory education.
Career
As a student, Goya Menor expressed his creativity by constantly tweaking his sound while composing music. He was a notable figure in the university’s music community, performing at most events on campus.
However, after graduating from university, he did not achieve success as quickly as he had hoped. Although he released a few songs, they were not well received by the music market. Despite his good standing as a local artist, Goya Menor was still dissatisfied and yearned for better achievements. So he decided to move to Lagos, the music capital of Africa, to further his development in the industry.
This was a good move for him as he soon met up with emerging rapper Erigga and the duo recorded a rap song called Make I Yarn in 2016. The single charted higher than Goya Menor’s previous songs.
While his career was yet to gain the desired traction, Goya Menor decided to give hype a try and became a hype artist. In a short period of time, he became one of the most sought after hypes in Lagos, performing at top clubs and lounges in the city.
However, he was still hesitant in his dream of writing and releasing a chart-topping song. Luck finally smiled on him in 2021 when he teamed up with Ghanaian producer Nektunez. He pitched the idea of recording a remix version of the upbeat club track Ameno Amapiano to the artist, who immediately agreed. While Nektunez handled the production, Goya Menor wrote the rap verses and recorded the single in June 2021.
The single was not an instant hit and took months of promotion before becoming a club and party anthem. Within weeks, Ameno Amapiano had shot to the top of several music charts as millions of people streamed it non-stop.
The song became the most Shazamed song in the world in December 2021 and climbed to number one on Apple’s Top 100 Songs. Due to the virality of the single, it has been used as the background music for several TikTok, Facebook and Instagram videos including being used on the official TikTok page of the Champions League. Many social media content creators have created content based on the theme of the song.

As one of the faces behind a hugely successful song, Goya Menor has received a number of requests for collaborations from A-list and emerging African music artists. The rapper recently teamed up with local rapper and music star, Zlatan Ibile to record an upcoming smash hit.
