Grant Marshall was born in Port Credit, Ontario, and was selected 23rd overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored 92 goals and 147 assists for 239 points in 700 NHL games. With the Dallas Stars in 1999 and the New Jersey Devils in 2003, his name was engraved on the Stanley Cup.
In Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Grant Marshall scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime period. In the Eastern Conference Finals, he also assisted on Jeff Friesen’s game-winning goal.
Grant Marshall was pushed from behind into the boards during a game against the Sudbury Wolves on December 4, 1990. He was temporarily paralyzed but made a full recovery and was able to return to the NHL lineup.
