The protagonist, Jack, must go beyond mere accumulation and venture into crafting shelters and weapons from the materials he collects. The game begins in a lonely jungle camp that offers little context. Environmental changes, including dynamic changes and hallucinations that affect the character’s physical and mental state, occur throughout the game.

The smartwatch affects the health of the character by alerting the player to nutritional deficiencies and guiding the player to maintain a balanced diet. Getting enough sleep, avoiding poisonous organisms, and preventing injuries contribute to overall health. Craft medicines and bandages to help restore health, and use maggots to treat infected wounds before bandaging them. Compass and GPS aid navigation.

In the optional story mode, players begin a narrative centered around the search for their missing spouse. A prequel titled Souls of the Amazons Part 1 first launched on January 28, 2021, followed by Souls of the Amazons Part 2 on June 22, 2021, both offering single-player and co-op game.

Mia embarks on a journey alone to a nearby tribal village, intending to make initial contact with the Yabawaka Aboriginal people. A linguist, her absence raises serious concerns for her safety, strengthening Jack’s determination to find her.

Narrated in the first person by Jack, the story unfolds as he becomes acutely aware of the imminent danger Mia faces. The only connection between them is the radio, which adds suspense and urgency to Jack’s quest through the dense jungle. In addition to dealing with natural threats, Jack also encounters the Walaha, an offshoot of the Yabawaka people known for their skull-painted markings.

Made up of primitive tribesmen who resort to violence against the researchers, this faction brings a layer of complexity and challenge to Jack’s already dangerous journey. The unfolding narrative combines elements of survival, mystery, and the intricacies of human conflict to create an engaging and suspenseful storyline.
