Gwen Stefani shares how her perception of the country music charts changed after being with her now-husband, Blake Shelton, on the TV show “The Voice.”
The No Doubt frontwoman admitted that before working with Shelton, she wasn’t someone she paid much attention to.
In an interview with The Guardian, Stefani confessed, “I’ve never listened to country music, so even though Blake is very successful, I never even knew he existed before meeting him.” he.”
With her new focus on the genre, she expressed excitement at the idea of releasing a collection of country duets with her husband.
“I love singing with him,” she said. “He’s very humble and doesn’t realize how good he is. There’s something very attractive about that.”
Stefani recently released her latest musical work, her fourth studio album, titled “Bouquet.” On the album, the “Hollaback Girl” singer delves into her emotional journey following her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, along with celebrating her newfound happiness with Shelton.
“When he heard ‘Purple Irises,’ he loved it so much that he sang it,” she said.
When recounting her relationship with the “Minimum Wage” crooner, Stefani described it as a new opportunity after breaking up with leader Bush.
Their 20-year partnership ended in 2015.
“When my family fell apart, it was a disaster,” she shares. “How do you get up from that? But God put someone else there to love me.”
Stefani also elaborated on how the strong bond she shares with Shelton catalyzed their collaboration on a track from her latest album.
“I know this sounds strange, but Blake and I garden together. We have a house in Oklahoma and during the pandemic we came across this very old building on the land and had a purple irises that someone must have planted.” centuries ago but they still survived.”
She continued, “I wrote the song ‘Purple Irises’ about that and the feeling of finding true love and the insecurity of not wanting to lose it.”
Shelton and Stefani met on “The Voice” in 2014, but it wasn’t until the following year that they started dating.
