Haliru Nababa (born 15 December 1964) is a Nigerian law enforcement officer and current Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCO).

He is from Sokoto state, Nigeria.

Early life

Haliru Nababa was born in Sokoto in 1964, into a devout Muslim family.

He was the first son of his parents. With the support of his parents, Haliru Nababa was able to attend the best primary and secondary schools in town, which arguably gave him an advantage over his peers.

He was born on December 15, 1964 and raised in Sokoto.

Education

Haliru Nababa attended Demonstration Primary School for his primary education. He completed his primary school certificate in 1975 before moving on to Government Secondary School Tangaza where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1980.

During his studies, he was admitted to Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history.

He then continued his studies and obtained degrees in criminology in 1988 and 1996.

Career

Haliru Nababa joined the correctional service, formerly known as the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), in 1990 as an Assistant Director of Prisons and began moving through various posts until reaching the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Corrections in 2018.

He held this position until his new appointment as Head of Finance and Accounting Department.

However, in February 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the new Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, a position he still holds to the present.

Senior Officer Haliru Nababa attended the following statutory courses in the Service: Basic Assistant Director Course at Correctional Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna; Citizenship and Leadership Training, Shere Hills, Jos, Plateau State; 3rd Chief Executive Officer Course at Correctional Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna; Command Course at Correctional Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna; Advanced Command Course, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State; He attended the 41st Senior Executive Course, 2019, at the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.

Previous positions held

Haliru Nababa has led various formations during his career from 2016 to 2019, among them: Officer in Charge, Wurno Satellite Detention Centre, Sokoto State, Nguru Detention Centre, Yobe State; Mubi Detention Centre, Adamawa State and Sokoto Central Detention Centre, Sokoto State. He also served as Command Controller in Kebbi and Sokoto States.
