  • A crash may occur while attempting to sign-in to Halo: The Master Chief Collection via Steam with a profile that’s already signed in on an Xbox console.

MENUS

  • A “Controller Disconnected” prompt may appear after switching profiles on an Xbox console via the Xbox Mini-Guide.

  • Players will be taken to the Browse menu after selecting the Custom Game Browser button via the Firefight menu.
    • To create a Firefight session in the Custom Game Browser, follow the steps below:

      • Select Custom Game Browser.
      • Select Create.
  • Custom Game Browser tags may only apply when players have selected tags from both the Advanced Settings and Filter menu simultaneously.

STEAM DECK

  • When starting a new Campaign Co-Op session on Steam Deck, players are not warned that crossplay between Steam Deck and other platforms is not fully supported.

Halo MCC

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a compilation of first-person shooter video games from the Halo series. Initially released in November 2014 for Xbox One, it has since been ported to Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S. Developed by 343 Industries in collaboration with other studios, the collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4.

Each game in the collection received graphical enhancements, with Halo 2 receiving a special high-definition redesign of its videos, audio, and cutscenes in celebration of its tenth anniversary. The collection also includes access to the live-action series Halo: Nightfall and the multiplayer beta for Halo 5: Guardians, which ran from 2014 to 2015.

Upon release, The Master Chief Collection garnered praise from critics for its updated visuals and audio, as well as its extensive content. However, the multiplayer and matchmaking experiences were plagued by glitches and bugs, leading to an apology from 343 Industries and multiple post-release updates. Over time, many of these technical issues were resolved through patches and updates.

Halo MCC Gameplay

The Master Chief Collection initially included Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4, featuring their respective campaigns, multiplayer maps, and gameplay modes. The collection did not introduce any story or gameplay changes from the original releases. The games are first-person shooters with third-person vehicular combat. Each campaign offers four difficulty levels and the option to apply gameplay modifiers called “Skulls.”

Players can experience the campaigns solo or cooperatively, either through split-screen or online multiplayer on Xbox One and Series X/S. The Windows version lacks split-screen functionality but supports online cooperative play with friends on Steam and Xbox.

Halo 2 Anniversary allows players to switch between the original graphics and upgraded visuals seamlessly. The campaign mode of Halo 2 includes new elements such as “Terminals” and additional cutscenes to bridge the gap between the games for the release of Halo 5. The multiplayer mode of Halo 2 Anniversary features six remastered maps, while the standard Halo 2 multiplayer includes all the original maps with updated graphics.

The Collection’s multiplayer component includes curated Mission Setlists, which are selected levels from throughout the series. The Extras menu provides access to Halo: Nightfall, a live-action video series available through the Halo Channel, and the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta (although the beta was removed before Halo 5’s release).

The Master Chief Collection introduces new Achievements, and all difficulty and play modes are unlocked from the start. At launch, the game boasted a total of 4,000 Gamerscore spread across 400 Achievements, which was the highest amount of Gamerscore awarded to a game up to that point.

Halo MCC Release Date

Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released on November 11, 2014, for the Xbox One.  On June 9, 2014, Halo: The Master Chief Collection was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The announcement trailer, titled “Hunter and the Hunted,” was created by animation company Digital Domain and showcased a moment from Halo 2. The trailer featured the voice of Keith David, who portrays the Arbiter in the game. Leading up to the launch, several other trailers were released, highlighting the updated cinematics, Terminals, and gameplay from all titles included in the collection.

In August 2014, UK retailer Game revealed two special editions of The Master Chief Collection: the “Limited” edition, which included a steel book case, map book, and an in-game modifier, and the “Mjolnir” edition, which included all the Limited edition content plus a 1-foot statue of the Master Chief. A white Master Chief Collection Xbox One bundle was announced for Brazil and select markets, and a second Xbox One bundle containing the collection was announced for release in the United States in March 2015.

The worldwide release of the collection took place in November 2014. It was made available for download from the Xbox Games Store on the day of release. A 15-gigabyte patch was released on November 6, 2014, for those who digitally preordered the game, and it included early access to the “Boom” Skull, which enhanced explosion physics in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 campaign mode. The “Boom” Skull became available to all other users on December 12, 2014.
