early life
Halsey was born on September 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey.
When her mother found out she was pregnant, her parents dropped out of school.
Her mother, Nicole Frangipane, is an emergency medical technician, and her father, Chris Frangipane, owns a car dealership.
Nicole Frangipane is of Italian and Hungarian descent, while Chris Frangipane is African-American with some Irish ancestry.
Halsey has two younger brothers, Sevian Frangipane and Dante Frangipane. She plays violin, viola and cello until she was 14, when she started playing acoustic guitar.
She grew up listening to Alanis Morissette, Justin Bieber, and Brand New. Halsey’s parents worked multiple jobs, so her family moved frequently during her childhood. By the time she was a teenager, she had attended six schools.
In high school, she was bullied by other students, and at 17, she attempted suicide and was hospitalized for 17 days. She was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder; her mother also suffered from the disorder.
Soon after, Halsey began using drugs, saying her bipolar disorder made her an “unruly child.” Also, when she was 17, she fell in love with a 24-year-old man who lived on Halsey Street in Brooklyn. “That was the first time I started[ed] Making music, I began to feel like a part of something bigger than my small, isolated town in New Jersey.
Halsey is kind of the embodiment of all the exaggerated parts of me, so she’s like my alter ego.” In 2012, Halsey graduated from Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington, New Jersey.

Halsey began making music at the age of 17, and in 2012 she began posting videos on social media sites such as YouTube and Kik, particularly Tumblr, under the username “se7enteenblack”. She became famous for her parody of Taylor Swift’s song “I Knew You Were Trouble”, which was inspired by Taylor Swift’s relationship with Harry Styles. She subsequently wrote a follow-up song about their relationship, which she released online in early 2013.
In early 2014, Halsey was at a party and met a “musician” who liked her voice and asked her to collaborate on a song with him. The result was a song about her ex-boyfriend, “Ghost,” which she posted on SoundCloud herself a few weeks after recording. Within hours, the song went viral online, and she was contacted by several record companies, and the song eventually made it to the charts and received radio play.
Eventually, she signed with Astralwerks because she felt they gave her more creative freedom than other labels that approached her.

Halsey has since performed in various cities under various stage names, including Halsey, before settling on Halsey as her permanent stage name because it is a repetition of her first name and a reference to the Halsey Street subway station in Brooklyn, where she spent a lot of time as a teenager.
She also said that Halsey is the most popular name she has ever used. Halsey has been writing poetry for many years, and in order to promote these poems, she began to write more serious songs. Music became her “form of confession” and a form of therapy after she went through difficult life experiences.

While Halsey is currently in a relationship with writer and producer Alev Aydin, she has also been linked to some famous celebrities in the past.
Halsey dated rapper G-Eazy for about six months in 2017. The two even collaborated on their single “Him & I.” However, they briefly ended their relationship in 2018 but rekindled their relationship soon after. The two broke up for good in October 2018.
Halsey dated Yungblud from January to September 2019, before breaking up shortly after. She then dated American Horror Story actor Evan Peters and was last seen with Alev Aydin.
