How long is Tekken 8’s story mode?

Tekken 8’s story mode consists of 15 chapters, 14 of which feature either one-on-one fights or full cutscenes. Tekken 8’s main campaign can take up to five hours to complete.

In Dark Awakening, you will follow Jin Kazama’s journey to defeat his father, Kazuya Mishima. You will play as Jin Kazama and his allies, face Kazuya and his G Company soldiers, and explore Jin Kazama’s inner struggle, his past and his demonic powers. The mode has 15 chapters, and you can also play as other characters in each chapter.

The second part is the character plot, which delves into the motivations and history of each warrior during the Dark Awakening. It is recommended to complete the main story first and then explore these plots, as some of them will be unlocked later.

Overall, Tekken 8 consists of 32 chapters, combining Dark Awakening and character stories into one, making it the richest single-player experience in the series. The game has different difficulty levels, and players can replay it for an increased challenge.

Completing the story mode earns coins for character customization, unique life bars, and online match titles. To unlock certain items and fully customize your online character, you must complete the single-player content. For completionists, that means finishing the story mode to get everything.

Announced at Evo 2022 in August 2022 and officially unveiled at Sony’s State of Play event in September, Tekken 8 is developed using Unreal Engine 5. It incorporates new elements such as the “heat” system and “tornado” strikes. Online modes include arcade missions, including tournaments, avatars, and special in-game currency. The game was tested for stability and demoed in December 2023.

The first season pass (including downloadable content and characters) was available during the pre-order period. Upon release, Tekken 8 was widely praised for its evolution of the series and radical gameplay, with some calling it the best game since Tekken 3.

Tekken 8 Gameplay

Tekken 8 retains the familiar fighting game style of its predecessors. Producer Katsuhiro Harada has emphasized a more aggressive style of play, introducing the “Heat” system. In “Heat” mode, characters deal chip damage, gain extra moves, and change some move properties, encouraging proactive attacks. Timers stop with strategic moves. Guarding against heavy attacks or characters in “Heat” will deal chip damage, but unlike previous games, recoverable health can only be restored by attacking opponents.

The game has undergone a technical update, revising the “Rage” system to “Heat Smash”. The “Spiral” mechanic has been replaced with a “Tornado” extender, which causes the player to be trapped in the ground. Some stages have hazards, such as destructible walls and floors, and explosive interactions that will send injured opponents flying.
