How to Find and Pressure Thunderclaw in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an action role-playing game produced by Square Enix in 2024. It is the sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake. The game is part of a trilogy of remakes of the 1997 classic game Final Fantasy VII.

Like the first game, Rebirth combines real-time action with strategy and role-playing. The game tells the story of Cloud Strife and his Avalanche team. They try to stop the megacorp Shinra from using the planet’s life force, Lifestream, as power. They also battle Sephiroth, a former soldier who wants to gain more power by joining the planet.

The game started production in November 2019, even before the release of the first remake. The game was announced in June 2022. The team of the first game also worked on Rebirth, but there were some changes in the characters. It was released on February 29, 2024 on PlayStation 5, and people loved it immediately. The game was praised by critics upon its release.

How to find the Thunder Claw in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

Chapter 2: Volta Dog Mission on the Prairie

  • Activate the Wasteland Remnabot Tower: Start your journey by activating the Wasteland Remnabot Tower in the Grasslands region. This will trigger the Volta Dog quest in Chapter 2.
  • Find the Thunder Claw in the Western Grasslands: After activating the tower, head to the western grasslands. Use the map markers below to pinpoint the location of the Thunder Claw. It’s crucial to be prepared for this encounter, so make sure your gear and character are ready.

Thunder Claw Combat Skills:

  • Avoid using Electric Shocks: Thunder Claws absorb Electric Shocks, so they are useless against this enemy. Choose non-Electric Shock attacks to deal the most damage.

  • Equip Lightning Crystals: Equip Lightning Crystals on your armor to protect yourself. This helps reduce the damage you take from Thunder Claws during combat.

  • Choose the right role:

    • Tifa: Utilize Tifa’s unique guard cancel ability and switch to blocking in the middle of an attack. Press the R1 button to block while building up the ATB meter.

    • Claude: With Claude’s Punishment Mode, you can cancel out Thunder Claw’s attacks or dodge them without taking any damage.

Prepare your party wisely, employ these strategies, and face the Thunder Claws with confidence to conquer this exciting quest in Chapter 2 of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

How to suppress Thunder Claw in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

Mastering the Thunder Claws Counterattack in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Using Poison Strategies

In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, facing the powerful Thunder Claw will become much easier by adopting a strategic approach, especially if you have Red XIII equipped with poison in your team. Follow these steps to effectively deal with the Thunder Claw:

  • Using Red XIII’s poison:

    • Make sure Red XIII has the Poison Stone equipped so that it can be used as soon as he joins your party.

    • If you have already removed the poison material, and Red Thirteen is not your first choice, consider assigning it to another party member.

  • Switch to Red Thirteen during battle:

    • Engage Thunderclaw using any character, then switch to Red XIII during the battle.

    • Build up Red XIII’s ATB bar by dodging attacks and managing your party strategically.

  • Performing biological/poison magic attacks:

    • Once the ATB charge bar is full, unleash a Bio/Poison magic attack on Thunderclaw. This should induce a Stress state, making the enemy more vulnerable to attack.

  • Persistence and shock:

    • If the pressure state is not reached immediately, continue to hit the Thunder Claw with biological attacks.

    • Sustained attacks eventually force Thunderclaw into a staggered state, maximizing your team’s damage output.

  • Complete additional tasks:

    • In addition to dealing with the Thunder Claws, make sure to complete secondary tasks, such as defeating all enemies within the time limit.

  • Retry options:

    • If any mission proves challenging, hold down the triangle button in that area to respawn the enemy, giving you another chance to try.

By combining the poison strategy with Red XIII, you can effectively handle the Thunder Claw encounter, thus improving your chances of success in this exciting side quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second in a trilogy of remakes of the 1997 PlayStation classic, and follows the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020). After escaping Midgar, players take control of former Shinra soldier Cloud Strife, who joins the eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE. The central conflict revolves around stopping Shinra’s harnessing of the planet’s life force energy and confronting the resurrected soldier Sephiroth.

Similar to its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combines real-time exploration and combat to showcase a more expansive Overworld than the linear Midgar progression of the Remake. The game introduces objective markers in the heads-up display to guide players through the main story quests and side quests, each marked with the distance to the Overworld. Additionally, the party can ride Chocobos across the overworld, using specialized Chocobo Lure materials to travel faster.

Reborn takes the hybrid combat system a step further, blending action-centric melee combat with an Active Time Battle (ATB) system. Players control a group of characters, switching freely during the game. Combat mechanics include physical attacks, magic, and the use of items for offense, defense, and recovery.

The “synergy” mechanic originally introduced in the “Episode INTERmission” DLC for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (2021) returns, allowing party members to attack in sync, but at the cost of a slower ATB bar filling rate.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Summary

After the last game, Zack Fair arrives at Midgar with a sleeping Cloud. The world is in danger as the planet’s Mako is depleted. Shinra captures Barret and Tifa, while Red XIII saves Aerith but disappears. Zack hides Cloud and Aerith in Elmyra’s house and finds Biggs, the only surviving member of Avalanche. In Cloud’s past, he reveals to his friends the madness that Sephiroth committed in their hometown of Nibelheim five years ago. Learning that he was made from Jenova’s cells, Sephiroth burned Nibelheim to the ground, with Cloud’s mother and Tifa’s father also becoming victims. However, Cloud does not remember what happened next.

Tifa tells Aerith that she doesn’t remember Cloud being there. Shinra’s forces attack Kahm, forcing the group to hunt down the “Black Robes” who are connected to Sephiroth. Along the way, they recruit new members such as Yuffie and Cid, and discover the planet’s guardian – Weapon.

During their journey, the group learns of Sephiroth’s plan to summon a meteor and rule over a fused heaven. Cloud unknowingly gives the Black Materia to Sephiroth. A fierce battle ensues, involving Cloud, Sephiroth, and Zack. Aerith attempts to stop Sephiroth’s plot, but is seemingly killed. Sephiroth retreats, and the group mourns for Aerith. Cloud sets off with the Black Materia to fight Sephiroth, while the other Aerith stays behind to find a way to stop the meteor.
