The game’s story continues where Modern Warfare 2 left off. The show follows a group called Task Force 141, which includes characters such as Captain Price, Thorpe McTavish, and a new character named Yuri. Together with other armies, they try to stop a bad guy named Vladimir Makarov who is causing a lot of trouble in Europe and causing a great war.
The game has a multiplayer mode where you can play with other people. It brings new types of game modes and bonus options. The developers improved the aspects of the previous game, Modern Warfare 2, that players didn’t like.
The game is made using an improved version of the engine used in Modern Warfare 2. Development began in 2010, with multiple studios involved. Some of Infinity Ward’s original creators left before making the game to form a new company called Respawn Entertainment. Others also left or were fired. Sledgehammer Games came on board to help, with Raven Software handling the multiplayer portion.
Modern Warfare 3 received rave reviews from critics. People loved the gameplay, the story, and the multiplayer. However, some people didn’t find the story very innovative. It won the 2011 Spike Video Game Award for Best Shooter. The game was a huge success, with numerous copies sold within a day and becoming the largest entertainment product of its time.
Modern Combat 3 gameplay
In Modern Warfare 3, you’ll play a first-person shooter, similar to earlier games in the series. The game has different modes: campaign, co-op, multiplayer and special ops.
In campaign mode, you play as various characters, changing perspectives in three sets of missions called “Operations.” Your goals will be displayed on the screen, from reaching checkpoints to destroying enemies. Your health regenerates over time, but there are some graphic scenarios, including a terrorist attack on civilians, that you can choose to skip.
Co-op mode introduces a new survival mode in which one or two players battle waves of enemies, earning in-game cash to purchase weapons and upgrades. Special Ops missions return, offering challenges and up to 48 stars.
Multiplayer has an improved Pointstreak system, which replaces Killstreaks. Points are awarded for completing objectives such as planting bombs. Pointstreaks are divided into Assault Packs, Support Packs, and Expert Packs. The game also offers weapon proficiency bonuses, hybrid scopes, and a reputation store. Controversial perks from the previous game were removed, and new game modes were added, such as “Confirmed Kills” and “Team Defense.”
Special Ops mode includes traditional missions and new wave-based survival gameplay. In survival mode, one or two players fend off enemy attacks, earning money for support options and unlocking weapons. This mode is available on the DLC multiplayer map.
Call of Duty: Elite is an online service that provides statistics, social networking, and monthly downloadable multiplayer content. However, it was closed in 2014.
The DLC includes additional maps, Special Ops missions and Standoff maps and is available through Call of Duty Elite Premium membership. The DLC is released in four “content collections”. Premium members will receive DLC every month, and Xbox 360 owners will receive it earlier than PlayStation 3 owners. The DLC introduces a Standoff mode, which features smaller maps suitable for fast-paced battles.

Modern Warfare 3 plot
After the events of the previous game, Thorpe and Price were taken to a safe place in Himachal Pradesh by Nikolai, but Makarov’s forces attacked them. Price turns to Nikolai for help, and he enlists the help of former Special Forces operator Yuri. Yuri hated Makarov as much as Price did.
Meanwhile, a Delta Force team called “Metal” helps defend New York City, destroying radio jammers and using submarines to defeat the Russian Navy. This success forced Russia to withdraw its troops from the east coast.
Three months later, Russian President Volshevsky crashed during European peace talks. Makarov seized the opportunity, captured Vorshevsky and demanded the nuclear launch code. He also sent chemical bombs to NATO cities. Despite the best efforts of Task Force 141, a bomb explodes in London, and Russia, now under Makarov’s control, invades Europe.
Metallica saves the Vice President of the United States in Hamburg, but NATO fights the invasion. Task Force 141 found Somali warlord Waraabe linked to chemical weapons. They capture him and learn that CEO Volk, who has ties to Makarov, built the bombs. Volcker revealed Makarov’s Prague meeting.
In Prague, Makarov trapped the team and killed a Russian loyalist named Kamarov. During the battle, Soap dies, exposing Makarov’s connection to Yuri. Price was angry and sad when he learned about Yuri’s past. Yuri, disillusioned with Makarov, tries to prevent a massacre but is injured. Price reluctantly continued to work with Yuri.
Based on intelligence from Makarov’s Castle, Team Metal learns that Makarov plans to kidnap President Vorshevsky’s daughter. Although Metal sacrificed himself, the President was saved, Makarov was exposed, and the war was over.
Three months later in 2017, Price and Yuri found Makarov in Dubai. After a fierce struggle, Price used Yuri’s sacrifice to defeat Makarov, ending the threat. When first responders arrived, Price celebrated his victory.
Modern Warfare 3 Reviews
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 received positive reviews from critics, and its Xbox 360 and PS3 versions also received positive reviews. The game was particularly praised for maintaining the series’ high standards in elements such as sound design, polish, and engaging gameplay. The Daily Telegraph gave it full marks, stressing that it not only lived up to the brand hype but exceeded expectations. Gaming Evolution praised it as one of the best FPS games in the genre, receiving a high rating of 9.0 out of 10.
While the game received generally positive feedback, some critics offered constructive criticism. GameSpot mentioned that some of the series’ signature excitement was lost due to its iterative approach, but ultimately confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 is engaging and deeply satisfying. Eurogamer gave the game an 8/10, praising its ferocious and satisfying nature but noting that the single-player campaign is dated.
However, the Wii version was not well received, with IGN giving it a score of 4.5 out of 10. Criticisms mainly focused on graphical issues and a flawed buddy code system.
All in all, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been well received for meeting expectations and providing an engaging gameplay experience, especially on Xbox 360 and PS3. Despite these criticisms, they haven’t overshadowed the game’s overall positive reception, cementing its status as a noteworthy addition to the Call of Duty franchise.
