Early life
On May 14, 1966, Hyacinth Alia was born in the Benue State LGA of Mbangur, Mbadede and Vandeikya.
He attended elementary school at St. Francis in Agidi, Mbatiav and Gboko.
His spiritual journey began when he enrolled in St. James Minor Seminary of Makurdi in 1983. He was then allowed to continue his studies at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Jos.
In 1987, he received a degree in Religious Studies, and in 1990, he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology.
To further his education, he enrolled at Fordham University in the Bronx of New York City, where he eventually graduated with a Master’s degree in Religious Education (Psychology and Counseling) in 1999.

Career
In July 1990, Hyacinth Alia was ordained a Catholic priest. Bishop Athanasius Atule Usuh, the revered spiritual leader of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, presided over the ordination ceremony.
