In a recent interview with Billboard, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 29, discussed her ongoing feud with artist Nicki Minaj, 41.
The “Savage” rapper recently appeared on the cover of Billboard. In the feature article published on Wednesday, she did not hesitate to address her misunderstanding with Minaj.
During the interview, Billboard’s Carl Lamarre asked Meg: “You’ve criticized Nicki Minaj. Is there any chance of a reunion or even a collaboration someday?”
In response, the “Mamushi” hit singer asserted that she did not know what led to their disagreement, so she did not know whether reconciliation was necessary.
“To this day, I still don’t know what the problem is. I don’t even know what to do to reconcile because to this day, I still don’t know what the problem is,” Megan Thee Stallion said.
Megan Thee Stallion Seems to Be Fueling the Rap Beef Movement
The Grammy-winning artist’s comments on the feud came after she was asked about her song “Hiss,” which appears to have started a constant rap exchange between other MCs, including Drake, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar, Quavo, Chris Brown, Latto and Ice Spice, among others.
Megan released “Hiss” in January, and it reignited her feud with the “Barbie World” rapper as the song was a blatant diss track against Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty, as well as Tory Lanes and Drake.
“I like to think I started it all. I don’t know; I just know what to do and what to say. If that opens the door for everyone else to vent their frustrations, then I’m happy,” she said of the competitive rap energy in the industry this year.
“Hiss” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, prompting Nicki to respond with a diss track, “Big Foot,” a few days later. According to XXL magazine, Minaj ripped Meg to shreds in a social media post before her song was released.
Nicki vs Megan: Collaborators Turned Enemies
It’s unclear how or why the feud between the two artists began. It’s worth noting that Nicki and Meg even collaborated on “Hot Girl Summer” in 2019. But according to Billboard, there’s speculation that Minaj doesn’t like the way Thee Stallion continues to collaborate with her other rival, Cardi B.
Megan has yet to respond to Nicki’s diss as of late. But in her latest interview, she insisted that she must have done the right thing when people took aim at her.
“I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. If people feel like I’m the one to shoot for, then I must be pretty high up if you’re shooting for me. I must be some competition. That makes me feel good. That makes me feel like I can rap because if I’m not shit, people don’t have to worry about me,” she told Billboard.
