Ian Watkins’ career
Lewis and Watkins formed a band called Aftermath in 1991, but they did not record any music. They later formed another band called Fleshbind, but it was short-lived. In 1995, Watkins reunited with Lewis in the hardcore band Public Disturbance.
Around the same time, Watkins and Gaze left Fleshbind to form the band Lostprophets. Lost Prophets performed their first gig in May 1997 with Watkins as lead singer. Ian left Public Disturbance to focus on Lostprophets in 1998 (all lowercase).
In 2003, Watkins collaborated with Hoobastank and Lostprophets. He also performed a concert for the Kidney Wales Foundation in 2008. Additionally, he has worked with Blackout and started a side remix project called “L’Amour La Morgue” in 2009. Lostprophets have released five studio albums and toured extensively.
In 2008, Watkins’s alleged abuse and misconduct with children was reported to South Wales Police, but no action was taken. During a 2006 tour, band members and crew witnessed him backstage with underage fans. His drug use undermined his relationship with his bandmates, who were unaware of his behaviour.
The feud reportedly took place in his dressing room while he spent much of his time in Wales while the rest of the band were based in Los Angeles. A brawl between Watkins and bassist Stuart Richardson resulted in injuries after Watkins missed a gig.
Stuart Richardson and Joanne Mjadzelics reported Ian Watkins for indecent images involving minors and drug paraphernalia. Despite multiple reports to police, no action was taken until Watkins was arrested in 2012. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges of attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.
Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison with parole in 2031. There were protests over the police officer’s handling of previous charges against him. In August 2023, he was stabbed by other prisoners while being held hostage at HM Prison Wakefield. See Ashley Simpson’s net worth.
