Ice Spice Lost Over Half a Million Followers in 2 Weeks: Here’s Why

This time last year, Ice Spice was being dubbed the “Princess Diana of Generation Z” by fans and social media users.

Once considered rap’s hottest new talent, she lost more than 500,000 Instagram followers in just 12 days.

Ice Spice — real name Isis Naija Gaston — has been the subject of much controversy recently, most notably her feud with former friend and rapper Cleo West, who goes by the stage name Cleotrapa.

On September 2, Cleotrapa posted a six-part video series on Tiktok recounting her experience participating in Y2K! Tour, which she was invited to participate in by Ice Spice. Throughout the tour, Cleotrapa described numerous instances of alleged mistreatment, including being excluded from the tour’s budget, and even being forced to pay for her own hotel rooms despite being allegedly assured that her expenses would be covered. She was also excluded from all promotional material released in support of the tour.

@cleotrapa

I wanna hear “I told you so Cleo” because honestly I really think I have a friend idc. You guys won’t make up false stories! Because I will always clear my name and you guys have known that since 2018

Cleotrapa later criticized her former friend for allegedly body-shaming and fat-shaming on X (formerly Twitter), and accused Ice Spice of using Ozempic to lose weight, an allegation Ice Spice has repeatedly denied.

The incident comes less than two months after Ice Spice made headlines for her involvement in the public breakup between rapper Central Cee and influencer Madeline Argy. Ice Spice and Central Cee were spotted together in public several times, sparking romance rumors, before his ex-girlfriend — Argy — took to TikTok.

In multiple videos posted to social media, Argy alleged that the marketing for Ice Spice and Central Cee’s collaboration “Did It First” deliberately implied that Central Cee had cheated on her. To add insult to injury, much of this “marketing” took place in early July before the release of “Did It First” on July 11 — which happened to be Argy’s birthday (July 7). A few days later, Ice Spice seemingly responded to Argy with a TikTok video of herself doing push-ups. The caption read “post-drink mood manzzz.”

Additionally, a clip of Ice Spice recently went viral on X from a livestream with popular Twitch streamer Tylil James. In the video, James leads a prayer with Ice Spice in the frame. She can be seen making a hand gesture that some social media users have called “satanic” and “demonic.” Many users have also criticized her for her facial expression in the video.

“Tylil praying with Ice Spice,” said one social media user. “She can’t stop making facial expressions while praying.”

Since the release of her debut album Y2K! In July, Ice Spice saw more unfollows on Instagram than album sales.
