On Friday, the 27-year-old “Havana” singer caused a stir on social media after revealing a track that appeared to be a response to the 25-year-old’s new song “Taste,” which was said to be about Cabello’s past with Carpenter’s alleged ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes.

In an Instagram post, Cabello shared a short teaser for her upcoming single, “Godspeed.” The post was captioned “wish you all the best, but stay away from me. godspeed. 9/6,” leading fans to speculate that the track could be a subtle nod to Carpenter.
The short video accompanying the trailer shows Cabello submerged in the ocean while sporting blonde hair. Fans were quick to connect the image to the ongoing rumors of a love triangle between Cabello, Carpenter, and Mendes, which has been going on since early 2023, according to the Daily Mail.
“I feel like something epic is about to happen not the same old thing, she looks so excited, bored and about to scream it to the world,” one fan commented on Cabello’s IG post.

“An answer to Sabrina?” another asked.
“I guess this is for Shawn,” another wrote.
Speculation that “Godspeed” could be Cabello’s response to Carpenter isn’t without reason. Carpenter’s track “Taste,” from her latest album “Short n’ Sweet,” features lyrics that listeners believe allude to Mendes and Cabello’s on-and-off relationship.
In the song, Carpenter sings, “I heard you two are back together and if it’s true / You’ll have to taste me when he kisses you / If you want forever, I bet you will / Just know that you’ll taste me too.”
When Sabrina released the song and music video “Taste” last month, many were quick to assume that the track hinted at the complicated relationship between the three artists.
To add to the appeal, Carpenter cast Jenna Ortega — whose dark hair resembles Cabello’s natural hair — in the “Taste” music video.

According to the Daily Mail, the love triangle began when Carpenter and Mendes became romantically involved in February 2023, shortly after Shawn and Camila split. However, their relationship may have ended when Mendes was spotted with Cabello shortly after he was spotted with Carpenter.
While neither Cabello nor Carpenter directly responded to the rumors, the timing of Cabello’s announcement has led many fans to speculate that “Godspeed” will be a musical response to the alleged drama.
In addition to the new single, Cabello announced the release of a deluxe version of her album “C,XOXO,” now titled the “Magic City Edition” as a tribute to her Miami roots. The updated album will be released on September 6, the same day as “Godspeed,” and will feature new songs that Cabello referred to as “stories to tell” about her life in Miami.
The new album cover, revealed by Cabello on Instagram, once again shows the artist immersed in the ocean, this time with a sexy look on her face and her hair slicked back.
Amidst the excitement over Cabello’s deluxe album, fans are also looking forward to what’s in store for Cabello, Carpenter, and Mendes as all three will attend and perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 11.
